Images from Delhi's upcoming Terminal 3. First flight - 14th July 2010 (hopefully )
The ramp that takes vehicles up to the departure level
The departure forecourt - kiosks will come up later here as well
The common check in area - 168 counters in rows A-N
A check in counter too many?
Post check in, entry into International departure immigration. In the far distance lies the entry to domestic departure security clearance
The immigration area. 96 counters (dep + arr combined) in all
Retail / Duty Free area - loads and loads of options coming up
Toward the departure gates. There are 4 such piers with more than 50 boarding gates. 97 travelators all over the airport.
View from the seating area near the gates
The international apron. 3 stands for A380 with triple boarding bridges
The view arriving passengers will get as they enter the terminal from the piers. Immigration counters in blue can be seen.
Bagagge reclaim - 14 belts including 2 for A380 sized loads

In 2005 or 2006 it would be almost impossible to believe that this is in India. Even now it is still difficult to believe that Indian airports are improving, but at least we have seen new airports in HYD and BLR.
Now I really can't wait until my trip to India this August. _________________ http://openflights.org/user/akumanduri |

Here's praying that this splendid terminal does not go waste, and someone like AI actually makes this a massive hub for it's intl long haul ops. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

No it won't! It might be pretty to look at (at least compared to what there was in its place), but, like everything else in India, nothing is planned or designed or implemented with user friendliness in mind.
I predict that the usual hassles and lack of instruction and absence of direction will continue to make using a desi airport a bother. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

I am not in the business of comaring DEL with an ICN or SIN but am amazed at the ease at which you have predicted things - some soothsayer you must have at your disposal
Just wondering if you have been to the new airports at BLR or HYD and faced such issues before making your prediction? |

Have you been through HYD? Its one of the smoothest airports to operate through. |

BLR is very nice as well. But the negative perception comes from the way airports have been run over the years by the AAI. CCU, MAA, TRV are still garbage dumps.

A privatized AI? Maybe. But not AI in it's current form with it's bhel-puri fleet whose employees probably do not even know whether they have a European hub or not at any point of time.
Praying that 9W and IT put it to good use. Seeing 9W's impeccable management decisions, it can only be expected from them. _________________ Yeah.

HYD/BLR/AMD/DEL (T1D)/....... there are numerous examples which go against this theory of yours... Ever BOM (T-2) looks great after it's refurbishment... _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. I have to agree...Until the basic and core problem are not solved, no matter what they do...it will be like driving thru thick slushy mud....
I wish them all of the best... |

Fantastic pics VT-ALA... Thanks for sharing them.
Just curious ... why has DIAL gone for color-coded piers around the terminal? At first glance it does look odd... but artsy!

Guess, the answer lies in the pic itself! |

There are four piers in the terminal, each with with its color coded stands. The colors represent 4 Indian spices Saffron (Orange), Green (Coriander), Chilli (Red) and Turmeric (Yellow). Red & Green are at the international gates, while the other two are on the domestic side. |

Thanks for the info VT-ALA!
While I type, I am watching G M Rao speak with Shekhar Gupta on NDTV 'Walk the Talk' program, while doing a walk around in T3.
Looks like it was filmed on the same day (during the simulation drill) |
