Way too many pilots trained on the A310 and no roadmap for them to shift to the heavies, quite obviously the only way to keep them occupied is to ..... ahem.... get more A310s.

Pretty soon AIC from being the world's largest operator of A310, will become the "world's ONLY operator of A310"

Had mentioned this about 2 weeks before in the Air India News Thread, also 2 more 767s are expected to join as mentioned by me in the same thread.

Whats so special abt A310s which are not used now adays by many airlines.A310 is outdated. The least AI can do is either lease A340-300 like how 9W did or lease A330s.Its time for AI to sell their current fleet of A310s.

It won't be a bad idea for AI to operate B767-400ER for its trans continental flights and flghts to HKG,TKY,Seoul .It can fly more passengers on routes served by acfts in this size category. It has excellent range capability(aprox 5,645 nautical miles ). It'll be a best replacement for those ageing A310s.

But mate AI should rather go for those aircrafts which it plans to buy. For 767/757 they have to wet lease ...

Actually im sure even AI would want to go for 777s but probably they're not available or maybe the lease rates are pretty high.
Im guessing a wet lease from Iran Air of one of their B707s or B747SPs should be quite good Wink
