DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) _ An apparent mechanical malfunction on a Bangladeshi airliner injured 14 passengers and closed Dubai International Airport, an airport official said Monday.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight 006 was taking off at 6:30 a.m. Monday when a ``small incident'' occurred that caused the takeoff to be aborted and the plane halted on the runway, said the airport official, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

Fourteen injured passengers were taken to a hospital and the plane was quickly evacuated, the official said.

The official said terrorism was not a factor in the incident. The plane was traveling to the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.

A Dubai government-owned radio station said the Middle East's busiest airport would be closed for as long as 12 hours and asked travelers to phone their airlines for more information. Incoming flights were being diverted elsewhere.

Dubai airport's Web site offered no information, but its arrivals and departures page listed flights as delayed or canceled.

Shocked 12 hours??? They beat the fog records by DEL! Shocked
WHy? Doesnt DXB have two runways? Or did the so called 'small incident' take place in the intersection of the two runways? I can't remember their runway headings

OMG - this seems really shocking for such a "major" airport to be completely shut down for 12 hours! I pity EK today - their schedules must be totally screwed for no fault of theirs!!!

They do have 2 runways but with the huumongous amount of departures and arrivals in peak time even if one runway is operating still all EK oerations can be screwed up.

Seems to be a case of overload!!! The trim sheets are being examined.
Aircraft was an A310.

According to posts on A.net:

* Engine/s caught fire during take off roll
* Hence pilot decided to abort takeoff
* Applied brakes and load was too much for the NLG to bear, and caused it to collapse.

Dubai has parallel runways but the other runway is under repairs and cannot be used.

There have been a lot of diversions to AUH.

DXB has 2 rwy 30L/12R and 30R/12L

30L/12R has been closed for almost a year now...earliers was used for departures only...now rwy is completely closed. So now a days DXB has become like DEL only. Once we were vectored for almost 45 min ... and a frnd of mine had to wait for almost 20 min b4 he got permission to pushback

they hoped to re-open the rwy in Mar..but seems the project got delayed...now we are looking at Jul for the reopening...will be fun once it happens Wink

There were further reports that a Cathay B747F burst tires on landing "just" before the Biman started its take off roll.
Now, there could have been an engine FOD and an alarm in the cockpit, forcing the pilot to brake quickly. However, it is strange that the NLG should collapse under the sudden braking force.

Wasn't it a DragonAir Cargo to be precise? (I know they've been bought over by CX)
