Buy something really small and tiny - digital seems to be the way to go. Don't know much more unfortunately Sad

Suggest to go in for any DVD camcorder. Will ease out the pain to transfer the videos to the PC.

A 20x optical zoom is good enough for home use, see if u can manage to get an additional battery.

I normally go to www.amazon.com for all my electronics shopping. Once there, navigate to handycams and check for the top-sellers list, and choose one amongst the top 10 there. That's the lazy way to find the product to buy.

I have a Sony DCR-HC32. the picture sucks. If you want good colour and contrast go for the Panasonic 3CCD ones. I think vivek has one, ask for his views on it.

I have a Sony DCR-HC 36, bought it for around 25k. Everything's fine with the camcorder for home video except for the procedure to put the videos on the computer.

Since it uses tapes, it needs streaming of the video from the camcorder to the pc using usb and recording it simultaneously. So irritating !!!

You need to download using a firewire card and not USB interface(damn slow).

I bought a firewire card today but havent used it so far, will try it tomorrow. Also, what software do you use to save it on the pc. Windows Movie Maker is useless (takes away the clarity), Sony's picture package is worthless Smile (takes too much of hard disk space)

Which one do you use ?

What i have heard it is also that the due to motor winding/rewinding drains the battery a lot and the life is reduced. Wondering if this is also a issue with the MINI DV models ?

I use only windows movie maker as it is easy. I don't have the time to try out new software( video editing is a painful and time consuming process).
I don't know about the clarity issue, may be thats why my movies suck Smile
