Boeing announces 2 additional jet orders from Qatar, Kenya Airways
SEATTLE, Dec. 18 (UNI)
Boeing Co. announced two jet orders — add-ons to previously announced deals with Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways.
Qatar Airways added two 777 freighters to its order for 14 777-300 Extended Range aircraft and six 777-200LRs, the company’s longest-range aircraft. The first freighter delivery is scheduled to coincide with the opening of Doha, Qatar’s new international airport in 2009, Boeing said Sunday.
Since May 2005, Boeing has reported 51 orders for its twin-engine 777 freighter.
‘‘The state of Qatar is a country of robust economic growth,’’ said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker, in a statement. ‘‘While the cornerstone of our success has been focused on our passengers, we also recognize that the 777 freighter brings asset value to our fleet as we address a growing regional freight market.’’
Kenya Airways added three 787 ‘‘Dreamliners’’ to its March order of six Boeing 787s, which was made in March. That order included six options.
With the delivery of its first Boeing 777 in 2004, Kenya Airways became the first carrier in sub-Sahara Africa to offer 777 service to and from the region. The airline will take delivery of its fourth 777 in February. It will receive its first 787 in October 2010. [/url]
