Reuters.com

Quote:
Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL.N: Quote, Profile , Research), the No. 4 U.S. carrier, said on Wednesday it would launch daily non-stop flights between financial hub Mumbai and New York/Newark from Oct. 31, subject to government approvals.

The Houston-based carrier has operated a New Delhi-New York non-stop service since 2005.

"We are excited about extending our Indian route network to Mumbai," Jim Summerford, Continental's vice president for Europe, Middle East and India, said in a statement.

The Mumbai-New York/Newark flights will be operated with a Boeing 777-200 aircraft, it said.

Interesting times ahead - from 0 non-stops to 3 non-stops on BOM-NYC in a year!

Im guessing AI will be the first airline to launch India-USA flights using the -200LR series a/c. Nice to see the non-stops between India and USA growing.

I wonder if CO will offer any connections, I don’t think they'll tie up with 9w seeing as CO will be going up against them on EWR-BOM?

@ the_380

Isn't AI 772LR stated for BOM-JFK?

DEL-BRU won't make sense if diamond traders is what they are aiming at.

is Kingfisher close to 5yrs of operations?

And are we expecting BLR-SFO?

What equipment are they planning to use on that route considering their A345 are not arriving that soon?

Has anyone seen updated trade or IATA or GOI predictions for traffic growth on the India-US sector?

This sector will see a massive increase in capacity with the new CO flight, AI's nonstop 777 to NYC (I'm assuming that the daily nonstop 777 will be in addition to AI's 2 daily 744s to the NY area), and Jet's planned daily NY and SFO via PVG flights.

I think the flight originates from SEA only because aircraft availability and logistics demand it does. In effect, given the AMS hub, the flight can originate from pretty much any of NW's hubs in the US. Over the years, the flight has originated from JFK, IAD, MSP, DTW among others.
