Delta To Audit Air France Safety Practices
Sep 17, 2009
Robert Wall
Air France has tapped its SkyTeam alliance partner Delta to audit the carriers’ safety practices.
The French carrier has come under fire from some of its pilots, who say the airline has let safety standards slip in recent years. The accusations were made in the wake of the crash of an Air France Airbus A330-200 (AF447) June 1 on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Details on when and how the audit will be conducted have not been worked out.
Air France has taken several safety-related steps since the crash of AF447, including replacing two of three Thales pitot tubes on Airbus A330 and A340s. The Thales pitot tubes were on the mishap aircraft, which appeared to have received anomalous speed information, although no direct link has been established between that event and the crash. Air France completed the modification Aug. 7, the airline said. Pilot training procedures have also been enhanced.
