And i dont blame them... i too feel shameful about my countries airline... too bad my dad or uncle or granduncle or grandfather or someone la de da doesnt work for them... otherwise i may have had a better picture.

Im sorry its a personal view.. but i think they are just a burden on our developing country and putting blemishes on our image to the world.

A check in Skytrax, though many respected members say Skytrax mustn;t be taken seriously, show that AI is going downhill.
Same old complaints of over flowing toilets, staff who haven;t a clue, arrogant attitude and late flights.

Nitin,

You'll be surprised most of the senior and ex employees share your opinion about AI. Dad continued with AI only because it was the only airline in India flying the 747s.

I can imagine himmat... ofcourse i dont mean to generalize but all the people i have known who have been related to someone who works with AI or IA has just been ripping the airline apart flying on it for free. Its quite infuriating actually. And am tired of these tom dick and harry small time politicians who think they are god on earth and are driving up to the aircraft in their "Official" vehicles.

While i love this country, the problem lies with the hypocracy of our politicians, beaurocrats frankly, of which i have had ENOUGH of. We live in a god damn democracy where people are supposed to be equal which thses farts are all ove rthe place thinking that god shat them out personally.

Free travel on our AI and IA is a very well thought out provision by our forefathers but is just being raped by the present day officials. Instead of promoting our airlines they are just juicing them of every bit of strength they have.

Sorry but i have very strong views and ofcourse i am not implying all officials are like that.. but if not 90% atleast 75% are!

nitin

Merger will ruin ... privatisation is the only way out. Why ont these bofons think of privatising the airlines rather than merging both

Yes, AI is pretty lousy, but the barrage of complaints on Skytrax sound like the rants of infrequent flyers who still think that a gourmet meal and 36 inches of pitch is de rigeur in Economy. Those who have a beef with the airline because of its constant delays on some routes to the US and Canada have reason to be pissed off, but when you read some moron complaining that AI has a 2-5-2 configuration on the 777 while all other carriers have 3-3-3 (rubbish again), and that it was AI's fault he was in the middle seat of 5, then all you can think is "you're a whining, complaining gora idiot, and you deserve to be stuck in that seat."

Based on the experinces I have had with Air India root and branch change is needed if in this ever increasing competive world they want to survive. Admittidaly I am classed as an infrequent flyer but when I do chose to fly with other airlines Ive never been left stranded with my family in Kuala Lumpur because AI staff didnt reconfirm tickets correctly(codeshare flight with MAS), other airline checkin staff havent ripped me off for cash, other airlines havent left me hanging around LHR for 3 days blaming weather conditons in Mumbai while BA, 9W, VS & BD where managing to fly perfectly well.

the result of this from being an infrequent flyer Im a non flyer with AI as are friends relatives who all have had horror stories relating to AI.

Well i have had an array of horror stories with AI with 25 - 30 hr irrational delays to engines being failed . But in the late 80,s and early 90's we didnt have any option from flying to mumbai from doha as there was just one weekly flight to mumbai

I remember my mom telling me .. way back in 1991 i was travelling with AI from BOM - DOH on a B747-200 there was a major technical fault half way through our flight and the pplane suddenly dropped down very low. And we literally glided down into mumbai runway.

All ambulances fire brigades etc etc were there.

That was then , now the AI officials treat the passengers like herds of buffaloes .. and giving no explanation abt a 9 - 10 hr delay cancellations etc. which is very common. My mom was once slapped the AI official in doha for using some foul language after she repeatedly asked why the flight was delayed for 8 hrs and still no sign of when the a/c will come

AI is pathetic in all possible dimensions of service barring the food.

FYI , ive a gold tier membership on QR ,, and silver on GF . So that should explain how frequently i travel

There have been many cases where DN staff were using foul languages talking on the phone with their own friends during DUTY HOURS!
