I'm quite surprised with the popularity of KUL, I personally find it quite a sad airport! It's one thing to build a majestic structure, but totally another to give it a sense of life. That being said, I love the XKL check-in counters and the fast train link.
My favorite is probably going to be something like SIN - because of the multiple things to do when there. Unfortunately it's marred by sub-par lounge facilities, and the lack of a fast train link to the city (the current tube line takes almost an hour to get to the city center and you have to change trains at least once (Expo) and possibly once more.
But the best part of SIN is the sense of "life" in that airport - maybe due to the greenery and water that's everywhere!
American airports are pretty uniformly mediocre. |

NRT and Osaka Kansai are cool in their own way. I also liked YYZ and CDG.. I'd heard a lot about SIN, but didn't find it all that impressive. The greenery inside the airport is good though. |

ORD- Orchard Field!
Although I must admit, the airports in the US are beginning to look worn out as compared to the New world airports like SIN,HKG, KUL. |

Of the limited airports I've been to, YYZ would be obvious choise. And for hassle-free transit, nothing like VIE.

I agree with Nimish on his assessment of KUL. Beautiful but lifeless structure.
For liveliness, I thought Dom Muang was a good airport.
AMS is also a beautiful airport, went there a long time back.
Even AKL is pretty good. Small but big enough for the 11mn that it handles per year. And its got a good viewing deck right at the top of the terminal with a beautiful view of the Runway.
Hong Kong, HKG

KUL & HKG Airports are my favorites.
What I like about HKG is that once you pick your bags the train station is bang opposite so no lugging around with your luggage.
The other old world charm airport that I like is Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta. It has a very resort style beautiful traditional Javanese architect structure jutting out all across .
Difficult to explain but if anyone has gone to Jakarta will understand what I mean.

My best airports are
1. Munich, Franz Josef Strauss.
Having travelled through almost all major EU hubs, and several outside it, I can say with some authority that not one comes anywhere close to Munich. When it comes to efficiency, the Bavarians make everyone else look like Philistines. If there is an airport in heaven , Munich is the one.
2. Shamshabad, Hyderabad, India: Proof that even Indians, when they use their minds properly, can be as great as anyone else on the planet. Sham'bad is a real delight! and unlike other things in India which start off great but fall by the wayside eventually, Sham'bad seems to be keeping up the standards. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).
