Excellent TR Vivek, those shots of Everest were truly amazing. You also got to experience the 757, something quite rare in that part of the world but extremely common here. _________________ http://openflights.org/user/akumanduri |

Thanks guys for your comments!
Yes, although under-rated, Nepal is a must-visit destination for an aviation enthusiast. The sheer variety of aircraft and type of airfields is mind-boggling. And of course, the views are unbeatable!

The 'Wingviews with Himalayan Backdrop' are simply stunning! TR was great.
One thing, though i'm not in a capable position to suggest u, but the rate at which u r churning out Cabin Shots, i cudn't stop but ask u this! Are u thinking of Fish-Eyes??
Hope we construct and develop some airstrips at NJP, etc and that our local airlines take some cue from them. Be it off-Seasons or not, we never had any paucity of tourists at Popular Hill stations like Darjeeling, Gangtok, etc. :copied idea, but will work:

Hi Vivek
Excellent report and I too have flown on the Buddha Air mountain flight which is a lifetime experience, Although I was a bit scared looking at the meeky plane when boarding.
Also agree it was a total Chaos 6:30 in the morning when I was boarding from the domestic airport.
I still have the certicificate given to me by them although I forgot the lines printed on it.....

I did the KTM trip from BOM around 10 years back when RA had the BOM-KTM flight. Flight was at that time delayed from BOM only about 4 hours food was unedible vegitarian ( but then I love non veg and may be I am biased ) Non veg apparently had to be PRE BOOKED- every other international airlines from India does the opposite - Veg has to be pre booked. It wa a 757 and ground handling was by AI. Half our group came from Delhi and their flight was only delayed by 6 hours.
We were attending a corporate convention, convention had to be cut short the second day of 3 since that day a local bovine resident near KTM airport decided to do some spotting on the runway! Unfortunately the crew of one of the three RA 757son the fleet, which was at that time on the take off roll for their flight to DXB was not obliging to wait for the bovine to finish his/her spotting. End result was predictably unfortunate for the bovine and more violent than expected for the aircraft as due to bovine ingestion the aircraft was out of action for two weeks. This meant that 1/3 of the RA international fleet was knocked out and subsequent chaos meant that DEL flight where our contigent was booked to return got cancelled.
The flight to BOM still operated - the delay of course was about 12 hours this time and the return was as forgettable as the onward. The only entertainment of note on the flight (no seat back IFE or AVOD then) was a fist flight between a couple of passengers and a steward (no one had a complaints about being thirsty in the flight even at that time) and some one from AUTHORITY upfront had to come out and calm things down.
The loads even then on the KTM-BOM flight was apparently pathetic. I remember a co-opax asking me whether I was part of a corporate group. He mentioned that he used to take this flight regualrly and was the first time he was seeing something like anywhere decent loads on the route!!!!
Never did a himalayan flight, but went to Nagarkot - I dont know - maybe I am patriotic - bit I thought Munnar or even Yercaud is better!!!!
By the way this "any identification document requirement for Indians in Nepal" stuff is a little dodgy. Passport is the ideal one, and else the only other indetification which is fool proof is the govt voters Id. Some of our party had a nasty surprise in KTM when they were denied boarding in KTM (although they had no problems at DEL) because they had only drivers licences. They were offloaded and finally could travel only the next day after getting a letter from the Indian embassy at KTM. Incidentally while the pax got off loaded , their baggage had no such propblems and made it into DEL without their owners which did not speak highly of the reputation of the airline at that time.
This was ofcourse about 10 years back , but may be things have changed. |
