Now, fly low-cost to the US
Rahul Puranik, a US-based NRI, is planning to launch a low-fare airline company, Sapphire Airways, with an initial investment of about $130 million. The airline is likely to connect San Francisco, New York and Chicago to Delhi and Mumbai by early 2008.
Sapphire Airways will operate 14 flights in week in the first year of operation with the number reaching 40 in three years. The flights shall have a stopover in the Europe.
By end-2008, the airline plans to operate 12 planes on the India-US route. It has shortlisted Boeing 777 and Airbus 330 planes out of which one family of aircraft will be selected soon.

A Pinch of salt is probably needed.

A330s can't fly USA-India so there has to be a halt somewhere either in Europe or in Eastern Asia if it comes from that side.
Oh btw wasn't there another company which made a lot of noise about starting non-stop flights to India from west coast USA and using either A340s or B777s? Rolling Eyes

If I am not mistaken, this will be the first LCC to fly India to US, isn't it?

Good idea!

Maybe its time we ANUTTERS all got together and floated an airline as well! Lets keep this thing small: lets get wingletted 737-800's with extra tanks in the belly kitted out to fly one-stop to the US with 48 business class passengers.

BLR-SFO or MAA-IAH? Wot say?
