I did my final flight with SIA Cargo today. Thanks to the union I also got my final settlement. Will be back in India next week!
How's the job market for 744 F/O in India? Or am i just safer doing my 320 refresher and coming back on the left seat? |

Would rather move to Qatari or EK they have a lot of wide body openings. All the same. Just a little worried about the kids though. Not sure how they'd adapt. They had a tough time in Singapore when they came and just as they started having fun, it was time for the contract to be over.
A note of caution. If you're applying to SIA Cargo, there's a BIG difference between what's said on paper vs. what actually comes to your bank. I lost more than I made in the last 2 yrs, thanks to the contract. |

Oh jeez - sorry to hear that. And welcome back to the free world . Well - EK/QR probably does not qualify for that
What about 9W/IT - how much (time/effort) would it take for you to move from 747 to 777 or 345/343? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Got a call from a recruiter for AI for the ORD base. Since my contract with my previous employer was provisio, AI expects me to pay for my refresher. That apart $6700/mnth is what they are offering.
The other offer I have is with Korean Air, they're offering PIC but after 2yrs. And I'm not sure that the 747 really has a market in the asian market.
Not sure which way, Suggestions, rants, voices WELCOME |

That's just like $80K a year - which seems like a pittance!!! Don't pilots make much more?
I'd say a 777 or a 330 has much more of a market than a 747 going forward. How easy or tough would it be for you to move from 747 to 777/333? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

He will have to spend about INR 8-10 lacs for type rating if any airline doesn't give him... _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Senior First Officers make just about that much anywhere across the globe my friend. Yep, I did hear about some first officers on 320's in India making about $100k, but then again, who said logic rules India.
While I could pay for my conversion, the bigger problem is not conversion but actually getting an airline to take me on after that. When I left IC aviation was at its peak and jobs aplenty. Not the same right now. Especially with oil prices being so high, not many people want 4-engine guzzlers.
My kids now need a solid base for their education, Can't take the nomadic path anymore. That's the only reason I'm looking at Air India, unfortunately they're only willing to give me ORD as the base and that too on contract through a recruiter and not a direct in line recruitment. |

An a320 F/O making $100k a year.... im in the wrong airline it seems.
The AI offer seems bad for a few reasons which you mentioned. 1) A two year contract (not a direct one) and 2) do you want to be based in America?
The pay seems really low. Weren’t you P1 on the 747?
Qantas..... Congrats Let us know the details _________________ eP007 |

Well an ex-colleague from Alliance who went to Deccan claimed that he moved to Indigo at that salary on the right. He's now a Capt. though.
AI doesn't have line-in recruitments, you have to join them as a trainee pilot and then move up the chain. All other positions are contractual only. My ex base captain JSD moved from Alliance to AI Express as chief pilot but didn't get his seniorty accumulated from Alliance to AI.
I was always P2 on the 74s, don't have enough hours on type for P1. And its only been about 1 and a half years for me on the heavy. Which makes me pretty unattractive for most airlines to recruit.
Let's see how Qantas goes. But there is news abuzz about their fleet aging troubles with most aircrafts being due for C and D checks. |

Question,
I too am in the job market . Looking for employment,
I visited the Qantas site and saw that you have to have Oz licenses and an Oz permanent resident card to apply,
I assume you have those?? |

Hi picollo and welcome to AI.net! If you'd like to, it would be great if you could introduce yourself on the member introductions thread. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Picollo the recruiter takes care of the PR and the license cross over. After which I have to serve the recruiter for ONE year and then I can apply under the DEA to be absorbed by QF. The only pitfall is that QF will take you in DEA only one pay grade lower than your current rated. The reason for this is to give preference to Australian Pilots in the program who have tenured with Qantas. I'm giving serious thoughts to continue on the 744, since it seems to be dying out faster than you can imagine. A 330 or 777 conversion is a huge cost I can't afford. So have to rely on an airline to do that for me. |

You'll get a WHOLE lot of info there. Just read it up. I signed up a couple of months ago and here is where the recruiter contacted me. It seems to be a site with a LOT of pilots in there and ready references are always available. |
