|
|
Nimish, Nitin, Lewis, Nilanjon, and so many others who have shared their lovely (old and new) BLR pics with us: the Yelahanka air base is about 14 km from the new Bengaluru International Airport, and some views seem to be visible from the BLR approach road, possibly next to a body of water where the fence is a bit lower. Any pics of there? What is the main traffic at Yelahanka - HAL 748s? One mainly sees some of these parked aircraft from the road, one could possibly get some views with a good zoom lens. However, this road possibly has a no stopping rule, and the air base security may be extra tight. BLR spotters - what do you say?
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Sumantra, I have no interest in military a/c, so I'm never even interested to stop and look at YOHK. My fascination is solely with stuff that's within my reach ... _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Though some aircraft can be seen without too much obstruction, but little far from the highway, there are guard towers along the boundary wall, so although stopping there is fine (seen a few civilian vehicles halted along the highway), taking out a camera can attract too much unwanted attention.

The main traffic here seems to be 748s and AN32s, along with a few Jaguars. _________________ My Flickr photos

Thanks a lot, Nitin! Given your incredible output from both the BLR airports, one would have been surprised if you did not have a good reason to share with us goodies from YOHK as well. And yes, thanks for your BOM pics - lovely!

Hi Sumantra,
Sorry for the late reply! As nitin pointed out, it is difficult to stop near the airbase and take photos. Just wait until Feb 2009 and you can go inside the airbase and take as many pics as u want, nobody will question you _________________ HamiltonAir |

Yehlanka is a Transport base for the Southern Air Command and has mainly Dornier 228's with Visiting An32's, HS748 and IL76. But it is mainly a Do 228 Base. You probably wouldn't have seen those little fellas due to the boundary wall or something.
Cheers

Thanks, Shivendra - another reason I missed out on a lot of planes was because I was speeding past Yelahanka, to catch a flight - in all cases
Cheers, Sumantra. |
