Qatar Airways to fly to Chennai, Ahmedabad
Premium UAE carrier Qatar Airways announced on Thursday the expansion of its services to India by adding Chennai and Ahmedabad from March-April next year to five Indian cities from where it operates and raising frequencies on some existing routes by almost 60 per cent.
"From our existing 30 frequencies each week, we are now operating 42 frequencies till January 31. This will go up to 49 from next summer", airline CEO Akbar al Baker told reporters here.
He also announced plans to introduce a passenger service to Nagpur from the middle of 2007 and a twice-weekly freighter service around the same time.

Note the use of the words "Premium UAE carrier Qatar Airways"; another example of great aviation journalism. _________________ My Flickr photos

aviation ka ijjat ka faaluda
When will these people learn that Qatar and UAE are two different countries? i can understand a mistake for Etihad Airways being made as a Dubai based carrier or Gulf Air being called as Saudi airline... this is too much
Speaking of QR can anybody give me a word of advice so that i can forward it to my cousins flying Doha-LHR on QR?
regards

Cool - great news! I'm kind of sad that they're not coming to BLR as yet, but I guess we have to wait till Apr 2008 for any further expansion at BLR. Plus they're not yet a part of *A, so I'm not missing them so much
All the more reason for the govt to open up the Gulf market to our own private players. |

Note that like Kuwait it will be flying Narrow body (321).
Do they have any US connection from doha?
The funniest thing at AMD is that as soon as you drive in ... there is a huugggeeee banner of Ethiad, but no sign of it coming anywhere near AMD. |

Great to see the five star airline expand its wings to other parts of India and BLR can wait for a little longer before it arrives here. _________________ www.flickr.com/G-BYGB photos |

QR is definitely becoming a pretty good airline.
But everytime I read something like this I feel that our own private carriers are being robbed of opportunities. When will our govt learn?

They will start flying to the US some time this year, with New York their first destination.
They have lots of flights to Europe, though. _________________ My Flickr photos

From what I read in the media today, they plan to launch these services with 320 series? They fly a 320 to HYD daily.
Edited to correct the a/c type

Its A321 for both destinations -- Doha-Chennai/Doha-Ahmedabad.
Seat entitlements have gone up from 5,300 to 10,800.
Nagpur is next to become online by June 2007. |

this is a link that gives a few more details regarding Qatar Airways operations to India
With immediate effect Qatar Airways would increase capacity on two of its prime routes – Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram. The Indian government has granted permission to the airline to upgrade its aircraft on these routes to the state-of-the-art Airbus A330.Also, Qatar Airways will be increasing frequencies to Kochi and Hyderabad, with daily non-stop flights to and from Doha. Currently, it flies five times to Kochi and four times to Hyderabad every week. The Airbus A321 will continue to be used in these two sectors.
There would be seven flights a week to Chennai and Ahmedabad. The launch date will be announced later.Chennai and Ahmedabad will be joined by New York, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, Lagos, Dar Es Salaam and two points in eastern and northern Europe during the year.
