I am flying BOM-AMS-BOM by Northwest next month. Any friends out here who have done this sector? What to expect, what not to, etc. Please let me have as much feedback as possible. Thanks in advance. |

Are you flying Coach or Business?
If you are flying coach, expect an A332 with reasonable legroom (better than most), a quick meal after take-off (what it was, I don't know, because the ungodly hour of departure means that most pax are asleep even before take-off). Service is your basic American style service - basic, brusque, but polite. Free booze, good IFE. Cabin crew can be friendly on occasion. I find them better than those on UA or DL. They serve a decent breakfast about 2 hours before arrival in AMS. I can't remember what it was, but it wasn't totally awful.
World Business Class has a lie-flat seat, but at an angle. The seat is better than on KL. Service is your standard American style J class service - friendly, but lacking the polish one sees on the better Asian, EU and Gulf carriers. The J Class food most airlines pick up out of BOM, especially the breakfast, is almost always Y class fare on fancy plates. If I were you, I would sleep through it all. Upon take-off, I asked for a scotch, took an Ambien (a sleeping pill), and asked the FA to wake me one hour before arrival with a cup of coffee and a light continental breakfast snack. |
