I read the news at the uni website which says that Jet Airways has signed an agreement with Boeing to buy 10 B787-8 series aircraft, subject to regulatory approvals. Delivery is between July 2011 and December 2012 and valued at about $1.5-2 billion.
Jet has the option to substitute them with other models of Boeing aircraft.

It also quoted that Jet will get the B777-300ER and A330-200 aircrafts, ordered in September and October 2005 respectively, during March-April 2007, the report says.

Cool - this is absolutely splendid news! 9W can use these on the short haul routes to SEA/Japan or to the Gulf (if that market opens up). Good going 9W and glad to see that you're thinking for the future.

Jet told the Bombay stock first!!! 9W scrips got a huge boost.

....another bomb that 9W may explode is that it is looking at 6 to 10 747-8s also. But this may take some time and announced around Aug/Sept 07. This is the "serious" gossip in Air India.

Interesting thing is that 9W is buying in 10s. 777s are 10, 787s are 10. IT on the other hand is 5,5,5,5!!! Exclamation

Wow - I think we might see another EK in the making here - only a little less ambitious. I wonder what NG or his management team are thinking here!

What the hell are they going to do with so many wide bodies? My source in 9W told that Airbus is to make an A380 Demo tour to india by this year end or next year and at that time 9W might announce upto 6xA380s Exclamation

Here is the release

Boeing, Jet Airways Announce Order for 10 787 Dreamliners

SEATTLE, Jan. 02, 2007 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Mumbai-based Jet Airways today announced an order for 10 787-8 Dreamliners. The order, placed in December 2006, is valued at more than $1.5 billion at list prices and deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2011.

"This order reflects our desire to be the leader in offering the highest quality of service that is reliable, comfortable and efficient for our customers with the most modern aircraft," said Naresh Goyal, chairman of Jet Airways. "These 787 Dreamliners, which will be used in conjunction with our 777s ordered in September 2005, will bring a new level of world-class service as we expand our international operations with routes to Europe, Asia and the U.S."

Jet Airways currently operates a fleet of 46 Classic and Next-Generation Boeing 737-400/-700/-800/-900 airplanes. The airline will take delivery of its first of 10 777-300ERs in April.

I personally hope 9W goes in for the 748I instead of the 380.

Also what sort of seats is Jet going to come out with their owned widebodies in J and Y. IMO their current offering on the 340s is a bit dated. What do u guys think?

Cheers

that raises a very important questions Exclamation Why aren't indian private carriers not that revolutionay when it comes to seats etc Question Question
Is it due to the fact that most don't own their own crafts as yet, or pure lack of vision or maybe callous attitude of Indians in general regarding seats. Maybe they just need a place to stick their @$$.

Well IT definitely is but they arent goin intl anytime soon. I would have expected something better from 9W definetely. Was hoping the 332 that they reced would have better seats but that does not seem to be the case.

AI also hasnt released any info on what their new a/c s are coming with although there was some talk of them getting their premium product reviewed by various famous people.

Lets hope for something from 9W.

Cheers

Many thanks to Air India source.

Air India has also selected Italian interior major, Avio Interiors to install First, Executive and Economy Class seats on the brand new Boeing 777 aircraft and Economy Class seats on B737-800 aircraft of Air India
Express.
Avio Interiors will install the specially designed seats for a contract of over Rs 225 crore.
The seat manufacturer will be exclusively designing new model seats for First Class, and Air India will have the joint patent. It will have many ultra-luxury features and will have a finish of leather and fine fleece. A passenger can also look forward to doing his work on state-of-the art electronic equipment and have a variety of electronic entertainment options. The seat will have a facilty for all this and is on consultation with leading IFE provider Thales. With this, Air India will have a world class first class and executive class products.
The Executive Class seats will be electrically controlled with a back recline mechanism and a folding and sliding front leg rest. These seats will
have a four way adjustable headrest.
The Economy Class seats will have a porter hydraulic recline lock and
mechanical control with fire blocked foam bottom cushion.

The seats of B737-800 of Air India Express will have front and rear track fitting anti-rattle device with a positive locking shear pin. It will have multi-position adjustable rear footrest with floatation bottom cushion.
Air India traditionally seeks the views of its clientele before introducing any product - be it the murals on the interiors of the aircraft or the seats to be procured for the newly-ordered aircraft.
It may be recalled that top names from the Indian Industry like Ratan Tata, Deepak Parekh, Yash Birla, Maureen Wadia, Parameshwar Godrej, Aishwariya Rai, Shabhana Azmi, Anand Mahindra and other industrialists had come to Air India building to choose the passenger seats for the new B777 fleet from 7 models.
In line with this practice, Air India also invited famous personalities like
Parmeshwar Godrej, Maureen Wadia, Avantika Birla, Sunil Gavaskar
among others, to help the airline choose luxury products from items ranging from Hermes bags to cosmetics for its giveaway kits to First and Executive Class passengers. The amenity kits contain all the basics
that keep passengers fresh on long haul flights - from toothpaste and mouth wash to moisturiser. Cosmetic companies like Nina Ricci, Chanel and Estee Lauder will be contracted for the cosmetics.
Air India will also be licensing and contracting its duty free services and onboard shopping. Leading retail outlets from London and New York will be contracted to upgrade the shopping experience. Leading Japanese electronic giants like Casio and Seiko are being approached to be contracted to supply electronic items.

***
Lets hope half of this merchandise doesn't end up in the bylanes of Kalina/Santa Cruz.

Will be getting the dimensions and details of the seats in abt 2 weeks. Plz be patient.

Catering staff deposit a specified number of cutlery. The no is counted while loading and not while unloading.

I think it should be simple and cost effective enough to install RF tags on life vests, it will probably help trap villians leaving with life vests hidden in their hand baggage.

I have seen people wearing airline life vests on beaches in Mumbai and Goa, and wish that there were some other aviation people with me at that point, would have loved to take them on.

If they install RF tags on the life vests, they will have to install tag readers also to detect the tags.

New is not always better.

The A340/A330 J Class seats that Jet inherited on the A340s and then installed on their A330s have been rated the best (if not THE best) by assorted polls. Recently, Fortune Magazine ranked Jet's J Class product as among the 10 best in the world; Skytrax ranked the SA J Class seats as THE best around. Yes, they're not as sexy as some, but they give you privacy, they're FLAT (not lie-flat, etc.), and they face forward (something a lot of people like).
