Massive Weight saving.
Since its an Aircraft common in Domestic aviation, hence thought it was significant.

Is this a new type of carbon brake, or did they use steel brakes earlier?

I would have thought Boeing has been using carbon brakes for a while?

Actually even I thought they came standard.
I just mentioned the airline because I'm not sure about the old 320s, whether they had carbon brakes in the 90's? I have no idea.
