SkyTeam invites Indian Airlines to join

AIR France’s chief operating officer Pierre-Henri Gourgeon has invited Indian Airlines to join the SkyTeam alliance.

At a meeting with V Trivedi, chairman and managing director of Indian Airlines, Gourgeon proposed that the airline provide synergies on routes to and within India, as well as to the Gulf region.

Indian has not yet made a formal decision on the invitation, as it proposes to merge with Air India and is currently undergoing a safety audit by IATA.

I guess once when the merger takes place AI and IC will belong to only one alliance.That will be a toss up b/w the star alliance and skyteam,whichever the management prefers.

maybe the new AI/IC entity will go to Skyteam and that will pave the way for 9W to enter Star.

Mr.Prock-Shauer (the current head honcho at Jet Airways after Mr.Goyal of course) has significant ties to Star Alliance and its member airlines:

Prior to joining the Company, he was Executive Vice President, Alliance and Long Term Planning with Austrian Airlines. He has also served as Chairman of the Star Alliance Management Board. In his current role, key functions like Flight Operations, Engineering, Planning, Network & Fleet Alliances, Finance & Financial Controls, Internal Audit, Corporate Affairs & Public Relations, Air Safety and all other Staff Functions report to him.
