BOM rotates runway usage. During the day time its usually the alternate runway (14/32) in use, come peak hours and night.. its almost exclusively 27 in use, occasionally the opposite end (9) will be in use like last night, due to change in wind direction or gusting tailwinds etc.

errr...IMHO that lead to some problems....unless of crs Capt Rajnikant is flg Wink

I feel ur getting confused about the runway alignment...so lemme try removing that

R09 : The runway which starts rite next to the Western Express Highway
R27: The same runway, but in the opposite direction...ie lookin from Jarimari towards juhu
Depicted as R09/27

R14: It is the runway which is in between the 2 terminals - Intl & Domestic
R32: its opposite
Depicted as R14/32

Normally R09 or R27 is used for landings and R14 for departures when dual runway operation is in use.

When R09/27 is closed for maintainence, R14/32 is used

Today they were using 09 for landing / Takeoff and R14 for Takeoff....atleast at 1530 hrs when i was there

Hope this helps

There you go now Runway 09 landings and take-offs are in ops - i.e. (approaches from the Juhu beach side with VAJJ to your left ) !

From my spotting experience, i've witnessed for the most part: 09 used for takeoffs, 27 for landings, 14 for landings and 32 for takeoffs. Although thrice i saw 27 being used for takeoffs and on a few occasions 32 used for landings. Takeoffs from 27 can be annoying and frustating as aircraft adopt a steep angle of attack and hence are high above VABB itself !!!
