Sorry for posting a photoless trip report but to see pictures of the Doha airport check the following

http://airlinersindia.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2111

So my first trip in 2008 was on Jet Airways and the ticket just cost me Rs. 17500 return whereas on QR it was
26000 Rs. AIX return tickets were available at 14500 Rs. but the outbound flights to Doha are not direct and also AIX strangely
they just operate a 3 weekly flight.

My schedule was

9W 552 28th Jan BOM - DOH 0720 0825 B73H
9W 551 1st Feb DOH - BOM 2315 0515 B73H

Left Pune at midnight and reached the airport at 4am in the morning. Airport was not that crowded , as usual all
the gulf carriers were scheduled for departure. QR was still checking-in their batallion of passengers , GF etc
all those counters were opened.

First Leg

9W 552 : Mumbai - Doha
Aircraft: B737-8FH
Gate no. 5 ; Seat no. 15F

STD : 0720 hrs Pushback time : 0735 hrs Airborne : 0752 hrs
STA : 0825 hrs Touchdown : 0835 hrs Docking time : 0840 hrs
Load : 93/140 nearly 66%

After going through immigration .. I just stood there watching aircrafts , there was an EK B77W , ET , many AI aircrafts
CX B773 the usual morning players in BOM. At gate 5 only the Flight to BAH was there which was say 60% full
maybe some 85-90 pax. QR as usual stuffing their A333. I had asked the QR guy whom I knew and he said the
flight had 302 passengers exactly on that flight. 302/305 not bad ! After watching the huge queuing up for Take offs
we were called for boarding at 7am. I must add the Terminal 2A is now much better than 2C. Boarding took place
well and we pushed back at 0735 hrs. Our aircraft sported the new 9W livery and was equipped with PTV's with AVOD
(which was a pleasant surprise to me). The 9W crew were very very nice, had a chat with them and they were
pretty enthusiastic as well. As soon as the doors were shut, we were served hot towels and fresh lime juice.
The crew made sure they spoke clearly to the passengers. After take off a nice breakfast was served , which was
nice, a sweet , a fruit plate , a nice big croissant, mango juice. main course there were option of veg and non veg as
usual. I had nonveg which consisted omlette and sausages boiled potatoes. Veg there was a samosa , Upma and
one more item which I could not notice. In the mean time was playing around with the IFE. After a nice breakfast
they came with tea/coffee and gave hot chocolates to the kids. After nearly 2 hrs everything was over, and the crew
just came up with their occasional rounds during which I had a chat with Ms Tarana a nice FA who provided me
with all the necessary gossips LOL. We began our descend at 0815 hrs local time .. as usual one turn to the right and we
were aligned with runway 34. Descending down through Mesaieed wakrah and we touched down smoothly at
0835 hrs. we disembarked , and the same crew was going to CCJ andthey had time to themselves for nearly
an hour. Immigration was smooth, got my bag and went home.

Food: 8.5/10
Crew:9.5/10
AC:9/10

Overall: 9/10

After a 4 day stay it was my return to BOM, reached the airport at 2115 hrs , got my exit permit stamped.

Second Leg

9W 551 : Doha - Mumbai
Aircraft: B737-8FH
Gate no. 6 ; Seat no. 11F

STD : 2315 hrs Pushback time : 2248 hrs Airborne : 2300 hrs
STA : 0515 hrs Touchdown : 0435 hrs Docking time : 0450 hrs
Load : 142/150 nearly 95%

I checked in at 2130 hrs. the ground handling was done by QAS and there were 2 Jet Airways guys around.
Got my boarding pass immigration did some duty free shopping and was waiting at the crowded place. There was
place to sit though, BA , LH , UL departures all there. BA is the only carrier that sends the B744 to DOH on a regular basis
The aircraft arrived from CCJ at 2145 hrs, aircraft was in the old livery. And yes both my aircrafts had winglets.
Passengers were called for boarding at 2220 hrs. the area was full , but then the boarding was done and by 2248hrs
we pushed back. Hot towels lime juice followed , ac was nice but no PTV's just LCD screens dropping down. Crew
was very nice. After take off a nice meal which consisted of a nice pastry, a chocolate , salad , chicken rice some
vegetables , croissant etc. food was very tasty. Before dinner there was a round of drinks. After dinner the crew s
settled down , periodic rounds and just before landing a round of tea/coffee. we began our descend at 0405 hrs
and at 0435 hrs we touched down at rwy 27. Passengers behaved did not get up till aircraft stopped. We disembarked
immigration was a breeze and by 0515 hrs I was out.

Food: 9/10
Crew:8.5/10
AC:7.5/10

Overall: 8.5/10

Jet airways is surely the right combo for me good price good service , that's what I look for the most on the gulf routes
Ground staff efficient as well.

Any idea why some of these ME-India flights which leave at 02:00 in the morning and reach around 8 AM (QR DOH-TRV flight for instance) , you end up with a full dinner at an unearthly hour and then not even served a cup of tea before you get off in the morning . Wouldn't an early breakfast make better sense????

I know" nothing beats home food" etc etc, but by the time you reach home after clearing customs and immigration (and a lot of gulf flights usually land together at that time), you will be lucky to reach home (or hotel) before noon!

Is there any proven research that pax will tend to get disruptive if they are not served any refreshement within one hour of boarding???? Smile

Just wondering .....!

NB : Good trip report. Looks like 9W keeps up high standards like QR which having flown then I feel is pretty high for a route where complaints about scrappy service by many airlines is commom.

See passengers flying on these flights just want to eat and sleep for the rest of the flight, so the crew always thinks better feed them quickly and put them to sleep. rather than waking everyone up again at some ungodly hour, which many won't, and rush up the meal service.

when I travelled EY twice , the flights from AUH to BOM left at 0230-0300 hrs local time and they served breakfast on this route.

As far as serving Tea/coffee goes, they do serve Tea/coffee before landing, esp QR. They do meal service quickly along with drinks, and then serve Tea/coffee.

As far as passenger health goes , no idea .. and even if there is I don't know if they are ever brought to notice considering they are the poor labourers travelling.
