India and Ukraine are close to finalising a major deal worth Rs 495 crores to upgrade the IAF’s 118 AN-32 transport aircraft.
A UNI report says that a high level Ukranian Ukrspetsexport company delegation is here to finalise the contract, under which the Ukrainian company would undertake the upgradation to increase the aircraft’s life from 15 to 25 years. According to Ukranian officials, the upgrade would commence this year and the initial modernisation of 10 to 20 medium lift aircraft would be undertaken at the Keiv aircraft repair factory. Subsequently, the upgradation would be transferred to HAL, Bangalore. India inducted the AN-32 transport aircraft starting 1984 and purchased 118 aircraft of which presently only 100 aircraft are in service. |
