So does this mean that AI will be doing the ground handling for EK at BOM?

maybe but it only implies that emirates will be parked some gates away from its original position

i think whenever EK come into mumbai the 2A is crowded and plus emirates brings in B777-300 a 380 seater plane so things become hectic
none of their flights leave on time from mumbai ... 2C is less crowded at those times when EK comes in ... this is what i think

I can recollect dad saying that once an EK flight had to wait for 15 mins at BOM then finally it got a far off bay for its aircraft

i know actually the schedule at 2A is so hectic at night especially between
2300 hrs - 0400 hrs with a BA 747 LH 747 NW 332 AZ 762/763 DL 772
CX 773 LX 332 KQ 763 flights departing in quick succession there is chaos at 2A and to add another EK 773 coming in bringing in 380 ppl now the time when EK lands it is 0255 hrs and many a times they do not have a gate to park at !!!! they have to wait at the domestic entry point till the BA flight moves and then move to the gate 2a really needs a break after the KQ 201 which departs at 0300 hrs coz after that there isnt much traffic only GF 320 QR 321 WY 738 KU 772(sig one)

now regarding the evening flight the terminal isnt crowded but the huge amount of domestic air lines piled up makes the airline to wait i remember once on EK 503 the flight left at 1905 hrs fronm the gate and we took off at 1955 hrs some 6-7 planes lined up before us

the flight leaving at 0945 well doesnt see much problems and therefore as a result EK 505 generally is on time

appears a double post was the cause for the lock on mine posted on the Tech Op forums.. i didnt see this on in the CAV forums since as per my reasoning it was more "operations" oriented and i just posted it there and left.. my misgiving as i am ops person!

anyways.. the reason for the shift may have to do with Air India being chosen by EK to do their ground handling services including baggage services and stuff.. so maybe this was long coming..

also it may have to do with the current sever overcrowding of Terminal 2A as a result of several carriers operating out of BOM who have their own handling or non AI handling.. this is a hot topic currently at all AOC meetings.. and a severe topic between us and 9W in particular since ever since they started their LHR flight... they occupy the counters that were initiall slotted for our use right from the start of their SIN flight and well into our time slot.. forcing us to utilise only 3 counters as the adjoining ones are used by LX and BA..

it doesnt help that despite several AOC agreements and meetings.. their duty managers refuse to give up the counters till 0030hrs in the morning arguing that they have a full load on an A340... so while they operate 5 counters we are sandwiched with 3 counters to start off with untill 0045hrs or so when swiss graciously gives us 2 counters... sometimes a lil earlier too to ease off our pressure..

but quite honestly.. 2A is just too saturated for capacity..

it may have been a 767 for AZ way back... but yes to the_a380's credit.. back since 2005 upto last half of 2006 AZ were operating the MD11s to BOM and NOT the 767... they have now replaced the MD11s with the 767..

as for NW.. they had BOM as a DC10 route.. now replaced by the A330

I-DUPI "Antonio Vivaldi" being one of the most regular of the AZ MD11s to serve BOM

I can clearly remember seeing a BOM-Milan flight of Alitalia next to us with a three-engined aircraft

Yes they just changed in 10/06. Made my decision to fly NW to India in OCT much easier.

If I recall correctly they had a 747 till the beginning of Iraq invasion. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
