Just wanted to continue this thread. Also update us if anyone comes across any good books related to aviation.

Got some here:
A Flight Too Far
Tony Blackman, former chief test pilot, aviation electronic expert and past member of the Board of the UK Civil Aviation Authority has written an amazing story of the world's largest and newest airliner flying non-stop from Sydney to London, carrying 510 passengers, how it was hijacked and then crashed, trying to land at Heathrow in freezing fog. The aircraft was certificated by the European Aviation Safety Agency using the latest European Satellite System for landing but the accident inspector felt that, despite the hijacking, the cause was an error by the pilots and clearly felt that a party on the beach in Sydney the night before the flight was a contributory factor.

Unusually there were leaks of the the flight recorder crew conversation to the press. Peter Talbert, safety expert and consultant on the interface between the flight crew and the aircraft’s automatic system controls, was retained by an insurance firm to determine if the cause of the accident was really due to the pilots making a mistake and Peter soon became convinced that the situation was more complex technically than the inspector thought.

Another one:
The Final Flight
The new mystery, The Final Flight, by Tony Blackman is about a modern jet liner disappearing when flying from the Caribbean to Bermuda. The plane was carrying ten world famous impressionist masterpieces which were being returned home to Jimmy Morrison, a billionaire boss of the Paragon Corporation. Peter Talbert, fresh from his success solving the mystery of a terrible accident to a Super Jumbo at Heathrow, flies out to St. Antony to help West Atlantic Airways find out what went wrong.

The European Aerospace 412 had taken off from St. Antony in the Caribbean to deliver the ten priceless paintings and a cargo of freight to Bermuda but somehow the aircraft seemed to have gone in the wrong direction and flew into a hurricane. The automatic position reporting incredibly did not seem to agree with the actual position of the aircraft and 100 miles south of Bermuda the aircraft disappeared.

Peter Talbert visited the New York Oceanic Center and was horrified when he heard and saw the last messages from the aircraft. Meanwhile RAF Nimrods, United States search aircraft, a Royal Navy frigate and other boats were searching the Atlantic trying to find the crash recorders and the aircraft itself. Arriving in St. Antony Peter started to explore how the accident happened.

Another good book:
The Right Choice
This book is about a competition between two firms hoping to supply aircraft to an airline in the Philippines. In the real world aircraft manufacturers and their agents have been known to do almost anything to win a contract and the story told in this book does not pull any punches. The competing aircraft have to demonstrate their ability to operate in the monsoon on the airline's network where the critical and important airfield is on the side of a Volcano. Peter Talbert, avionic expert and accident investigator, is hired by the airline’s insurance company to check on the safety of the airlines operation. Disaster strikes and once again Talbert manages to find out what actually happened.
This book is the third book in a series featuring Peter Talbert and his solicitor partner. It will appeal to anyone who flies as well as to the aviation enthusiast. The other books are titled A Flight Too Far and The Final Flight

The Right Choice

Flight Testing To Win
No aircraft is absolutely safe. This book is about Aviation, from learning to fly, becoming a test pilot, flight testing, demonstrating on some of the third world’s worst airfields, then specializing in Avionics and finally joining the Board of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, helping to formulate the regulations that the author had spent so many years living by. The book makes the point that flying is inherently risky, that regulations always try to quantify acceptable risk, that safety is a cost, and that test pilots have to sell their aircraft and should not try to make an aircraft safer than the rules require. It emphasizes the almost unbelievable changes in aviation in one working lifetime, whilst painting a picture of a much simpler world, now gone beyond recall. Many stories are told, including flying with the legendary Howard Hughes when the world thought him a mad recluse, and testing many aircraft including all three V Bombers, an almost unique experience.

The whole book unfortunately can't share so much... some lines are written quite dramatically and in such a manner that u'll have to scratch ur head to get to the bottom of it...but then its worth...
If im not wrong then an Airport Series movie was made on this book's incidents but with modifications that it was a 747.
You also share some good books with us Arrow Smile

Here are two of my favourites.
[
Beyond the Blue Horizon - Alexander Frater
What a book! One of my real finds and the numero uno in my small collection of aviation books.

Frater retracks the old Imperial Airways air route from London to Brisbane using then existing commerical services . Lots of history in a very easy to digest style. The journey was made in the 1980s. As a result you are treated to a very descriptive account of Indian aviation pre liberalisation (or to be more precise the days of Indian Airlines monopoly).
There are also details of a comprehensive interview by the author with JRD Tata. The middle east and south east asia are also well covered as is Australia.

If the author's name sounds familiar, you are right. Alexander Frater is well known in these parts for one of his other books "Chasing the Monsoon".

Air Disaster Volumes 1/2/3 - By Macarthur Job
Three comprehesive volumes describing major air disasters by a former Australian accident investigator. Goes into depth , yet easy to understand for the layman. Covers the A320 accident at BLR along with the one at Habshiem and that of Air Inter along with many other crashes. All major accidents from the 1970s to the 90s are described. This book I presonally feel is much better than books such as Aviation Disaters by David Gero which although covering many more accidents do not go into much depth.

Mechanics of Flight by Kermode is another good one.
