Russia will contest for the Indian tender for the acquisition of 126 fighters for the Indian Air Force by offering next-generation MiG jets. The UNI report says that Russia will offer the MiG-35.
The MiG-35, the next generation version of MiG-29M OVT with thrust vectoring engines is a highly manoeuvrable air superiority fighter, and will compete with the US, Swedish and French jet fighters for the USD four billion deal.

The Advantage the Russians have is that to us there would be no danger of sanctions stalling things. We should consider more than one manufacturer type in the 126.

Our defense relations with US are too raw to award them contract for such a thing. Russians have been our tried and trusted friends and so are French. British product should be okay, but it is bound to have US components and we don't want repeat of Sea King again. Although, the chances of sanctions are slim, but then there would be a lot of strings attached.
