Looks nice (this goes for the crew and the uniform), better than AI I would say! _________________ HamiltonAir |

Is it just me or is there nothing even remotely "British" about the new BA uniform for the Indian crew? |

Fantastic!
The British element is the flag in the saree and the red and blue.
Rohit Bal, who is looking more and more like Boy George every day which I guess one can do with ShahRukh Khan's Fair & Lovely cream and Peroxide for the hair, has done a great job.
In contrast look at the mess that Ritu Beri created. Her saree design is pretty nice (I've seen it in person at JFK), but those salwaar kameez's look like some darzee from Karol Bagh threw them together for some Punjabi aunty. |

the colour combination is nice , Red blue ... the British Flag elements. Somehow the designs in the sari could have been covered more on the borders and in between , but this is very good as well.
Rohit Bal has done a good job |

The British colours are nicely integrated into the dress, while showing a huge Indian influence. _________________ My Flickr photos

Thanks for posting...the uniforms look very nice. I also liked the old Indian uniform. The Indian market is certainly important for BA that it warrants a continued committment to an Indian uniform.
Once again thanks for posting (I have posted a link to these pictures on airliners.net). |

Where the eff can you see RITU BERI'S ''SALWAR KAMEEZ'' all that i can see as salwar is in the Indian BOY GEORGES (Rohit) collection. Why the heck do they have to emphaise on the George's cross and Scottish Blue. Can't they think out of the box ? There is plenty of Yorkshire or Cotswold mottiff that the designers can extrapolate from !!!! |

This is only for the Indian FAs (BA FAs employed and based in India) on board BA's LHR-India sectors. |

Personally I don't like the salwar kammez as a FA uniform. OTOH the sarees are well designed.
BA FA's will look good wearing those uniforms |

I was pleasantly surprised to hear the Indian FA make an announcement in kannada on the BLR-LHR flight. I was very happy to hear it. |

BA does a better job than AI does in that respect. I don't know what AI does on its routes out of Chennai and Kerala, but out of BOM it only makes announcements in Hindi and English. BA on the other hand always make announcements in Hindi, English and Gujarati, given that a majority of pax on the LHR-BOM flights tend to be Gujaratis. On the DEL flights, they make an additional announcement in Punjabi as well. |

The airhostess doing that big NAMASTE looks like a mannequin
That has got to be the MOST PLASTICKY PUT-ON FACIAL expression of the century.
The uniform is the usual British- stiff-upper-lip Oxford-bred look. |

a warm gesture, i got the cues when they clearly adv. a requirement for local cabin crews fluent in the southern vernaculars esp. kannada while starting BLR flights. another instance is kingfisher which at least does it at the BLR domestic terminal.
with all its acts now almost streamlined (LHR, delays, baggage) BA now has a loyal clientèle in BLR not to forget the large inbound business traffic, upcoming T5 & a better product than grumpy LH.
i look forward to their 744s ex BLR. |

Megatop - I've highlighted 2 areas in your post above - the fact is that they're still not done with their baggage woes, and they still have probably the worst rate of baggage delays/losses. My guess is that this will stay bad for the next 6 months, and only after T5 will we see a real improvement.
Have to agree with you on the 744 though! |

& nimish,
can u imagine the chaos during the transition to T5?
even chek lap kok & swarnabhumi didn't escape the woes of apt/terminal transfer movements.
& LHR can get only worse. but once done, BA's poised to get better positioned over its rivals. & BA would move the earth to build never-before terraces lounges at LHR.
& spotting a 7 am BA 744 rotating off from BLR on a sunny late october weekend is all i can get at the moment, rest better left. |

BA always makes annoucements in the local language.
Chennai has Tamil annoucements, etc etc
Lufthansa/Air France are also starting to do the same. |

are u sure?
air france doesn't even have indian cabin crew, the only ones without foreign cabin crew & LH barely has 2-3 indian crew per flight, i've even seen them being indifferent with all the germans together & the indians in a separate group while arriving at the apt for their flight.
maybe af puts on a recorded message. |

BA have been using Indian cabin crew since the late 50s when it was BOAC. And even back then Indian cabin crew were (a) from India; and (b) always wore sarees. My aunt was a BOAC airhostess in the late 60s and Ive seen her photographs from her BOAC days. BOAC hired Indian crew and dressed them in sarees to compete with AI back in about 1958 on its Comet flights to India just before AI changed its FA uniforms from dresses to sarees upon deploying the 707s in 1960.
In contrast, Brits of Indian descent are considered British crew, and while some of them have Indian language skills, they're not considered "Indian crew." They're deployed on system-wide routes, not just on the Indian sectors. I've been on LHR-BOM flights where you'll see a FA who is visibly Indian but who is in standard BA FA uniform, and Indian crew who are all in sarees. The former is considered British crew, the latter are Indian crew.
Someone tells me that the usual morons, racists, racialists on A.net are having the Sh*ts on a thread that talks about BA's new uniforms for its Indian crew claiming political correctness gone amock in the new milennium. The reality is that BA have always been ahead of the curve, since 1959 no less. |
