While i agree with you that the 2.8 is far far better than then F4, you really cant compare them because of the huge price difference. I think over here, the 2,8 is almost double if not tripe the price of the F4.
Birendra, when i bought my 70-200 F4L, i paid 30k for it. Now i hear its much cheaper, and cheaper still if you buy it in the States.
Its a great lens and i use it with the 1.4x tele extender.
you can check it out when we meet in the next few days.

How do you compare the F/4L and your previous lens 70-300mm IS? |
Well to be honest, there was a massive massive difference. the 70-300 IS was shit compared the 70-200 F4L. Even though the F4L is 100mm less, i make up for it with the 1.4x converter.
After changing to an "L" series lens, im never going back to a non "L" lens.

It cost me Rs. 23800.00 at Sony World. It comes with 1 GB memory stick and a large case (big enough to store all the accessories).
You can get it for Rs. 18000.00 at Alfa but that is without any warranty. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Hi Guys,
Here is my query!
*
The way things are shaping up for Indian Photographers (Birenda ji, Prajay Saheb and mighty Vishal Bhai and many others), I would also like to join in this Photo Feast. But But, I don't have a DLSR.... I have a New Nikon S50!
Will this be good enough as the DLSR! Will any of my photos get accepted on Anet or JPnet or MYAviation If I try to???? |

you can try you S50 from close range such as Jari Mari where these guys hang aroung. But, frankly getting photos taken by PnS camera accpeted is extremely difficult unless you photoshop. _________________ [url=http://openflights.org/user/aseemsjohri]

Yes sir, it is indeed worth every penny. It is incredibly sharp at the telephoto end with very less vign. and purple fingering is very well controlled when the lens is used wide open.
When I enquired here in Mumbai, it sold for 60K with a 3 month warranty. Its approx 1200 pds in the UK.

Ok so here is the take on the 100-400mm, in DEL the cheapest price which ibeleive is the cheapest in India is 68k. The guy in Chadigarh was selling it to me for 72k, but then its on a 100$ rebate in the USA so i asked my brother if he could buy it and bring it along with him later this month.
So he should have ordered it by now, at its costing me 1320$ or 52140rs. Which IMHO is a steal compared to the Singapore price and the Indian price.

Start by taking simple shots (for anet/jp), if you can get a static one, it would be easier. Side shots are easy to get accpeted, make sure you are on the correct side of the sun and the sky appears blue, also the plane should be in focus and fills 90% of the fram after cropping. |

Had to "replace " my long time companion , the CASIO EXILIM Z-500 with this baby as the former got completely destroyed on account of a continuous jet blast of sand/dust from a 9W 777-300ER heading to LHR. I was standing bang behind that 777 on that fateful day !

Hi Nitin / Birendra / Prajay,
I have been shopping for a 70-200 / 70-300 mm telephoto for my Rebel Xti (400D) for a while. From your quote below, it has helped me narrow it down to either 70-200 F4L or 70-200 F2.8L. Does the F4L you are mentioning have IS or not? Canon makes one with and without IS. Being a 'L' lens, is IS a necessity if I do not use a tripod? There is a 2x difference in price between the IS and non IS lenses (L lenses).

The general rule about handheld photography is that if you shoot at a speed greater than the reciprocal of the focal length, the shake effect will be covered. ie, if you shoot at 300mm the shutter speed should be greater than 1/300secs. The IS would allow you to reduce this speed by 2 or 3 steps. FOr aviation photography unless you are panning, the speed will be usually above 1/500 secs, especially in day time. |

Gentlemen,
Thanks a lot for clearing my confusion. Yes, I am focusing specially at Aviation Photography.

I have been looking at the 'L' lens for quite a while. Only now, I am seriously considering buying one. Currently, I am renting the 70-200 F4L to try out before getting one for myself.
Thanks
