We had discussed that in international section of the previous forum... 9W or AI or someone could have picked them up...but none did...surprising not even European or American airlines. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

the models of the 777 being broken up are the some of the earlier editions of the 772 equipped with the less powerful engines and restricted MTOW hence they were of little interest to the lease market.. also given the cycles and the minimal mx varig was supposed to have invested on them... it was decided they would be of little use to be put back into active service..
look up google for these topics.. there was one on A.net which was incredibly detailed as to why they were being broken up _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

Hi
Interesting to read about the 777, but at the end of the posts on airliners.net one guy mentioned that the ex Varig 777 will not be scrapped as Royal Brunei Airlines is purchasing the aircraft and it seems they were just rumours about scrapping
QuotingB777A3330:
It seems this was only a rumor, no B777 will be scraped for the time being, Royal Brunei will take both ex. BA B777-236 registration PP-VRC and VRD |

1) I did a check, its not "some" 777 but ONE (someone went overboard)
2) It is a VARIG a/c (like sri_bom mentioned).
3) The aircraft is currently somewhere in the Calif/Arizona desert getting ready to be taken apart. |

EDIT : The a/c is currently ready to be scrapped and is standing at an Airport in Arkansans. No one around seems to know of any lease to Royal Brunei. Will keep you posted. |

The a/c is en-route to Dallas (DFW) for its last rites. This is confirmed that it is an ex-VARIG a/c. It is also confirmed that the second one will also be meeting its maker, and not leased to Royal Brunei or anyone else.
Both these a/c are ex-British Airways, and are 772s with underpowered engines and bulleted fuel tanks which means that they are practically useless for most long haul sectors. |

Which is the exact version of these aircrafts? Is it dash 200??? I dun think so. The dash 200s have been quite successful _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

These are the 772 but not the ER variants, which means that they have a restricted range of ~5300nm vs ~7700nm for the ER. largely due to bulleted fuel tanks and an underpowered (~80k lb thrust) engines. I would still say DEL/BOM-LHR, DEL/BOM-BRU or DEL/BOM-LHR-JFK would be possible on these birds. |

The a/c is being parted out at Walnut Ridge, Arkansans (not Dallas as i had mentioned earlier). More details once I have em, One of the Boeing guys from here has gone there to help part some 'hazardous' parts of the plane. Will see if pics are possible of this brutal carnage. |
