the first leg was usual... we took-off on time... and service was good... approach into FRA was terrible! we circled around for 40 mins becuase of bad weather and then the worst happened... the capt. announced that we are running out of fuel so we are diverting to an airport called Cologne and will re-fuel and take-off once the weather improves... we land in Cologne and wait there for almost 3 hours and are ready to go! there were 3 LH 747s a Gulf Air a343 US Airways a333 at Cologne! so we finally take-off from Cologne and land about 3 hours late in FRA... dead tired!
We landed at about 1145 in FRA instead of the expected 750 and our connecting flight to BOM was at 1335 which later became 1420!!! we boarded and as we were waiting they announced that we are ready to board and everyone rushed inside without even getting their boarding passes checked! like a heard of sheep! the only difference was that the speaker was their sheep dog! lol! anyways we board and are sitting waiting to depart! its already 1415 and the capt. introduces himself and informs us that we will be another 20 mins late! but that was not the case we finally pushed back from the gate at 1550!
Since we took off late from FRA our arrival was of course going to be late in BOM and it was, almost 2 hours! we landed in BOM at about 0250 i think and headed to the arrival which was a really loooong walk! we waited for our bags... and u guessed it! they never came! we were told that 200 PAX bags were not loaded onto the flight because the baggage belt in FRA broke down and the storm had shut down the airport and that they have a backlog of more than 68,000 bags at FRA!!!
We were then told to move to the baggage recovery desk and fill the forms! which took about 2 hours considering the amount of people whose bags were missing! finally when we got to the counter all the formalities were done and we were given Rs.3000/- per person. Since my mum was also with me we got a total of Rs.6000/- but as we were heading to the bank to claim it, one passenger got Rs.4000! so we went back and spoke to them and they changed it to Rs.8000/-!! we have been told that within 3 days our bags should reach... will check tonight if they have arrived or not...
will add more soon! _________________ Flying High.... You and Me...!

What was the situation with mishandled baggage at DEL like, since I have heard about some people from BA also not getting their bags for a week now. I understand there was some trouble at LHR also, and the bags were finally trucked to Milan in Italy for re-sorting and then sending onwards by freighters. |
