Chinese airline fined for cheap air tickets
Beijing, Dec 18 (UNI)
A new Chinese budget airline that sold tickets for as little as 13 US cents has been fined for violating government price controls, a news report said today.
A Spring Airlines subsidiary was fined 150,000 yuan (USD 20,000) for violating rules that limit discounts on government-set ticket prices, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
Spring’s Jinan Spring Holiday Travel Agency sold 400 tickets on flights between Shanghai and the eastern city of Jinan for 1 yuan (13 US cents) the report said. They accounted for 10 percent of seats on Spring’s flights from November 30 to December 10.
A regular one-way ticket on that route costs 910 yuan (USD 116) including taxes.
Chinese airlines are barred from offering discounts of more than 45 percent on the government-set price, said an official of the Jinan Price Bureau, who would give only his surname, Tang.
Shanghai-based Spring is among smaller Chinese carriers fighting for market share in an industry dominated by three government-run airline groups.
Something to think about, as it seems to be identical to what is happening in the Indian market. |

Exactly even i was thinking the same... dirty tricks of 2Rs and 5Rs spoil the fair fare play
Flying has its standards... even local bus tickets are more expensive than 2rs and 5rs

In NZ according to the new laws airlines or anyone for that matter has to include all payable taxes in the advertised fare so that it does not mislead anyone.
Brilliant law I feel. This was done because of NZ and QF advertising very cheap fares with the taxes in the fine print. Now they cant do that anymore.

Thats a good thing but different from the indian scenario. Did QF or NZ sell tickets as low as 10 cents or 20 cents (USD)?
Even then the law that you mentioned should be implemented and this nonsense "lower than bus fares" should be stopped _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld
