How many Indian Freighter operators would be present in the skies by 2009.
There was Blue Dart [B732SF] & Elbee [F27] earlier.
Now Blue Dart [B732SF,B752SF] & First Flight[ATP Turboprop Freighter].
Possible Reliance [B767 maybe] & Flightton Freighters [B777 Freighters]would join them in a few yrs.Although Im not confident of the Latter.

I feel along with the existing ones some airlines might start full freigher operations like 'Jet Airways Cargo' or something like that _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

The 9W Cargo pan was doing the rounds quite some time back.Recently King Cargo from IT was in the loop.
The problem is that having a Dedicated Ground network is very Important in these cases.

What's the update on Flyington Freighters. It had ordered B777-200Fs for delivery in 2008 but was supposed to take some on lease by 2006 end.
Is it true that it had defaulted on pre delivery payment to Boeing? _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

The expenses are quite high... besids it should be worth converting else you run into losses. The 743s may noy be having that much of flying life left... _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Why do you say the B743 has no life left for Freighter conversion. Any reason.

Mainly because i doubt whether AI will be able to make profits out of it. Simple reason why S2 734 was scrapped. Boeing offered the aircraft would again be flying but expenses on repairs would be high and S2 realised that they mayn't be able to earn equal money that they spend. Same reason here also. Else they're in good flying positions _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

The B747-337s were delivered in 1989. They are as old as IC's first batch of A320s. If AI is converting EQS and EQT into cargo, why can't it do the same with EPW and EPX? They can go on for another 5 years as freighters.
The only problem would be that of crew. AI has only 8-10 B747-300 commanders and all of them are above 60. Expats are always available. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

But conversion should be worth. If AI converts its 743s into cargo and doesn't earn enough revenues then its a loss _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Thats what I stated earlier,to run a successfull Freighter ops the Ground Network should be strong.Hence 9W & IT would struggle.

Well IT might have to struggle but i feel 9W can do well. it has already been flying for so many years so that trust might come in. besides if it can manage to partner some intl cargo company for domestic cargo transport within india _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Not surprisingly these Airlines have still not started a dedicated Freighter service yet.
