I flew : Singapore Airlines
Aircraft : B777-300
Reg : 9V-SYD ( MSN : 28534)
Flt. No : SQ 421
Sector : BOM-SIN

Scheduled Dep : 1135 Actual Dep : 1125
Sch. Arrival : 1930 Actual Arr : 1915

I reached airport at 0825hrs, around 3 hrs before departure because I wanted to see the work going on at CSIA. That is the perfect time since flights are few & people less irritating.

Term 2C was practically deserted at that time. There were two gulf flights.
One AI and another EK, operating a A330.
So expected gulf crowd was there and not surprisingly many people with European connection too.

All the 4 screening machines were working & SQ staff was present all over to guide people to the 4th screening machine.
There was a Q of about 5 people at the screening machine.

Check-in was Ok. The dumb guy at the counter searched my name in J class at economy counter. Wish I was upgraded ….

Just saw the whole area, many places were covered for renovation. I proceeded for immigration. It was very quick. 10 working counters meant no “Q” at all.
After immigration too, there are boards all around which mention up gradation of CSIA, & has the new CSIA logo as well.

My flight was on gate 17.
Gate 18 had AI-191.(AMD – BOM – CDG – EWK), was just pushed when I entered. I saw that the flight was at 0720hrs but was late already.

A332 of EK was on gate 15.

AI wetleased B767 : G CEFG was operating AI133 to London from gate 16. Scheduled for 1000hrs, it took off after SQ.

Saw B757 of Ethiopian, B773ER’s of Jet, & a couple of new B738’s of AIX. Saw a Saudi B747 as well, I think it was 742, not sure.

The runway under operation was 32, & hence it was nice to watch all a/c’s landing.
So the a/c for take off lined up right in front of me. Almost all domestic.

Then incoming a/c of SQ reached at 1010 right on time.
Boarding started at 1040, which I thought was pretty fast.
And once inside, it was surprise…

First Class : 6
Bussiness : 11
Economy : 42

Well so it was 42 pax in a 265 capacity economy.
The air hostess were kind enough to declare the aircraft as free seating & that meant everybody got a window seat + the other 2 on sides all for himself.

I had done web checkin for 48 A, Because I wanted to be behind the wings.

Take off was smooth & we turned left, flew over Mumbai & then somewhere near alibaug shifted left again & took path for Singapore.
Service started immediately & SQ style , as usual was good. This was my 5th flight with SQ. Sadly, even with 42 pax, they had to inform me that they done have any non veg Indian selection meal available. Smiling I settled for Indian veg.

Right after takeoff the pilot informed that the flight is expected to be bumpy, & so it was.

The nicobar islands looked fantastic. IFE was ok. Much of what was given in the booklet wasn’t working, for eg the news update section. Later the steward told that the a/c was old & the system is not yet operational in this.
Also the tamil & hindi music channel was clubbed which meant you compulsory hear 10 tamil songs before the hindi collection starts.

People preferred sleeping, more so when they had 3 seats all for themselves.

I started observing outside after the a/c entered straights of Malacca. Pilot announced where the town of Malacca was. Some beautiful forest below & Malaysian country side.

It was time for landing & was a bit dark outside. Just before landing saw the huge chunks of reclamations under progress, well the news paper in flight mentioned about the rising water level & global warming & the example was right away.
Touchdown was smooth, but we landed on the runway opposite to T2 & that meant about 15 odd mins of taxing to gate F 46, which again is far…

Surprisingly immigration took long because of the “Q”. Luggage was already on belt & exit was quick.

Return TR sooon…

pretty strange.

SQ's flights to BLR, MAA, DEL & SQ 423/424 yo BOM are always packed to the brim.

& is SQ losing money on its morning runs btwn SIN-BOM-SIN?

I returned by SQ 424 & it was packed ..full.
all classess full... so hand baggage restrictions came in. people had to give their small sacks for checking as they wanted just 1 baggage inside & that was their duty fre shopping bag !

Morning flight seems to be in loss.
Few regulars entered the a/c and with smile to the crew said " ahh, another light flight "

But they have this flight just for connections.
That day there were 23 people on connecting flights. The details are displayed before landing on the IFE screen

As Ameya mentions, this flight might be important just for connections or even just for maintaining their slots in BOM. In addition, this might be a one-off occurrence, maybe the flight does better on other days?

Of course from BLR, I've yet to find an empty SQ flight to SIN or back Sad I'll post my latest SQ itin on the pin-up section.
