Has Indigo stopped placing air sickness bags in the seatback pockets? On my last flight, they announced that air sickness bags will be given out on request only.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/indigo-may-have-business-class-on-a321-xlrs-that-will-fly-to-destinations-like-europe-and-far-east/articleshow/91947003.cms

IndiGo may have business class on A321 XLRs

Jun 1, 2022

IndiGo could have a business class on the Airbus A321 XLR (extra long range) that begin joining its fleet from mid 2024 and will be used for nonstops with a duration of up to 7-8 hours to Europe and Far East.

The budget airline has always had a single class cabin, all economy. It has also shunned ovens on aircraft to keep aircraft light and save fuel, while selling cold meals (not counting pour-hot-water-in-upma) to passengers. But for the long flights that the XLR would used for, the airline is drawing up a different business model.

An IndiGo official said the airline is “considering a two class configuration (business and economy) for the XLR. However, nothing has been decided yet.” The XLR is also most likely to have ovens on board that will enable passengers to buy real hot meals.

The XLR product being designed by IndiGo are for the first budget medium haul nonstops between India and destinations like Paris, Frankfurt, Prague, Moscow, Tokyo and Seoul — a soul preserve of full service carriers’ (FSC) direct flights.

“If IndiGo gets it right and is able to offer a significant price difference (all inclusive factoring in meals, baggage, seat selection and onboard WiFi) compared to FSCs, it could give the latter a run for their money. It will be interesting to see how Air India, whose revamp is being planned by the Tatas, counter this move of IndiGo. Fortunately the Indian market is so huge that IndiGo and AI won’t need to compete with each other but complement each other,” said an aviation industry insider.

IndiGo to become world's first airline to use 3 doors for passengers' exit

Aug 04, 2022

IndiGo is set to become the world's first civil aviation service to use three doors for passengers' exits.

This facility would save the passenger and the staff's time as it would enable quick exit.

The IndiGo airline said in a statement that the disembarkation process would be carried out using the two front and one back door.

IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said it generally takes 13-14 minutes to complete the two-point disembarkation. With the new system, the airline will save seven-eight minutes.

The service will be implemented in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi first and will be extended to other stations later.

It still takes time to get into the bus and go to the actual terminal for remote disembarkation, which is quite common. Indigo and other carriers claim on time arrival, but they dont take into account the time it takes for a passenger to go the gate by bus, often it adds 15 minutes.

IndiGo again eyes UK using A321neo(XLR)s

06.09.2022

IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi Int'l) is mulling broadening its international horizons and operating flights to the UK using the A321-200NY(XLR). The Indian low-cost carrier is due to take the first of the planes in mid-2024. With a range of 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometers), the jet offers IndiGo the chance to significantly expand its international network.

“The XLR is a couple of years down the road. We are working out what is happening with the network. But it is too early to say,” AirInsight reports an IndiGo official saying. Asked about longstanding plans for London Heathrow flights, the official said it was too far out to give a firm answer, adding the airline would need to make a decision about one year out in order to apply for slots there.

IndiGo has a 50% plus domestic market share. However, its international network is now limited to Asia (as far east as Guangzhou, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore Changi), the Gulf region, and as far west as Istanbul New. During a recent earnings call, CEO Rono Dutta also mentioned IATAT!LV, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, and even Milan Malpensa as other potential destinations currently on IndiGo's radar.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, IndiGo has a fleet of 273 aircraft including twenty-eight A320-200s, one hundred and forty-five A320-200Ns, sixty-five A321-200NXs, and thirty-five ATR72-600s. The airline also has a further 518 narrowbody jets on order from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) across the A320neo and A321neo families including sixty-nine A321neo(XLR)s and 252 A321neo.

Meanwhile, as an interim step before potentially launching its own flights to the UK, IndiGo announced a new codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) last week that will see carrier funnel passengers on and off Virgin Atlantic's multiple daily flights into India (2x daily to Delhi Int'l and daily to Mumbai Int'l). The agreement allows IndiGo to book its passengers through to the UK from multiple origin points in India.

IndiGo to lease 4 x B777-200LR / B777-300ER

12 Octover 2022

To fill the gap in its foreign operations, IndiGo - the largest airline in India - will shortly lease up to four wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft, according to officials. The company has made the decision to wet-lease some aircraft as a stopgap solution to make up for the shortage for its planned foreign operations.

IndiGo has made the decision to wet-lease up to four Boeing 777 aircraft. The forthcoming winter schedule will include Boeing 777-200 LRs and Boeing 777-300 ERs, which will be deployed, particularly on international flights, airline authorities announced on October 12.

"We have received an in-principle approval from the regulators for the same and the induction of these aircraft remains subject to further requisite regulatory approvals. We are committed to exploring every opportunity possible to overcome these capacity challenges and provide our customers with efficient and affordable air travel," the spokesperson said.

IndiGo announced the beginning of direct flights between Mumbai and Istanbul on October 11 as part of the company's global network expansion.

IndiGo Airlines has reached an agreement with Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul New) to wet lease three B777s and is also reportedly negotiating to wet-lease an undisclosed number of A321s but that deal is yet to close.

So Turkish wet leases 777 to Indigo so Indigo can fly DEL/BOM - IST and feed TK’s IST hub. Brilliant for TK. I have to say, AI aggressively expanding with nonstops to US/Canada is the smart move. AI is changing the way people travel between NA and India - who would have thought. That said, we don’t really know Indigo’s plans so let’s see

https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/120893-indias-indigo-okayed-to-wet-lease-turkish-airlines-b777s

IndiGo okayed to wet lease Turkish Airlines B777s

31.10.2022

IndiGo Airlines has received the green light from India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to wet lease up to six Turkish Airlines B777-300(ER)s for six months - considerably shorter than IndiGo's desired two-year lease period. The planes will be deployed onto routes between India and Turkey, with IndiGo already flying between Delhi and Istanbul and due to start Mumbai Int'l - Istanbul flights on January 1. The aircraft would arrive ahead of the busy Christmas/New Year period.

ch-aviation recently reported that IndiGo has negotiated a deal with Turkish Airlines to wet lease the B777-300ERs plus an undisclosed number of A321s. "We have received an in-principle approval from the regulators for wet leasing aircraft and induction of these remains subject to further requisite regulatory approvals," said an IndiGo spokesperson.

The ch-aviation fleets advanced module indicates that Turkish Airlines has thirty-three B777-300ERs and all are operational. Aside from thirty-five ATR72-600s, to date IndiGo is exclusively an operator of Airbus narrowbodies. "International air travel is going through a strong period of recovery, and demand continues to rise in the upcoming festive and winter season," said the spokesperson. "As an interim measure, we have decided to wet/ damp lease certain aircraft to cover the shortfall for our scheduled international operations."

However, the DGCA did not support IndiGo's exemption request and a two-year lease. Indian aviation regulations allow the country's carriers, subject to DGCA agreement, to wet lease aircraft for up to six months (three months plus a once-off three-month extension) to deal with "emergency situations." However, capacity or route expansion does not constitute an emergency situation under the regulations.

The DGCA reportedly believes that safety standards may be comprised if the two-year lease goes ahead, saying that the planes will remain registered in Turkey and operated by Turkish crews and that the Indian safety regulator will not have adequate oversight.

Further, the DGCA points out that allowing an extended lease period may effectively grant a Türkiye-based airline access to the Indian market over and above existing air services agreements. Airlines based in either country now have the right to fly one daily roundtrip on the key Istanbul - Mumbai and Istanbul - Delhi routes. The DGCA argues allowing the two-year lease will create incentives for airlines to abuse the bilateral air service agreement.

IndiGo's exemption application remains before India's Ministry of Civil Aviation. "We are awaiting the ministry’s decision on this issue," an unnamed IndiGo official told The Times Of India newspaper. "We have sought an exemption for two years as we feel the supply chain issues being currently faced will hopefully be resolved in that timeframe."
