Has Indigo stopped placing air sickness bags in the seatback pockets? On my last flight, they announced that air sickness bags will be given out on request only.

IndiGo may have business class on A321 XLRs

Jun 1, 2022

IndiGo could have a business class on the Airbus A321 XLR (extra long range) that begin joining its fleet from mid 2024 and will be used for nonstops with a duration of up to 7-8 hours to Europe and Far East.

The budget airline has always had a single class cabin, all economy. It has also shunned ovens on aircraft to keep aircraft light and save fuel, while selling cold meals (not counting pour-hot-water-in-upma) to passengers. But for the long flights that the XLR would used for, the airline is drawing up a different business model.

An IndiGo official said the airline is “considering a two class configuration (business and economy) for the XLR. However, nothing has been decided yet.” The XLR is also most likely to have ovens on board that will enable passengers to buy real hot meals.

The XLR product being designed by IndiGo are for the first budget medium haul nonstops between India and destinations like Paris, Frankfurt, Prague, Moscow, Tokyo and Seoul — a soul preserve of full service carriers’ (FSC) direct flights.

“If IndiGo gets it right and is able to offer a significant price difference (all inclusive factoring in meals, baggage, seat selection and onboard WiFi) compared to FSCs, it could give the latter a run for their money. It will be interesting to see how Air India, whose revamp is being planned by the Tatas, counter this move of IndiGo. Fortunately the Indian market is so huge that IndiGo and AI won’t need to compete with each other but complement each other,” said an aviation industry insider.

IndiGo to become world's first airline to use 3 doors for passengers' exit

Aug 04, 2022

IndiGo is set to become the world's first civil aviation service to use three doors for passengers' exits.

This facility would save the passenger and the staff's time as it would enable quick exit.

The IndiGo airline said in a statement that the disembarkation process would be carried out using the two front and one back door.

IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said it generally takes 13-14 minutes to complete the two-point disembarkation. With the new system, the airline will save seven-eight minutes.

The service will be implemented in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi first and will be extended to other stations later.

It still takes time to get into the bus and go to the actual terminal for remote disembarkation, which is quite common. Indigo and other carriers claim on time arrival, but they dont take into account the time it takes for a passenger to go the gate by bus, often it adds 15 minutes.

IndiGo again eyes UK using A321neo(XLR)s

06.09.2022

IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi Int'l) is mulling broadening its international horizons and operating flights to the UK using the A321-200NY(XLR). The Indian low-cost carrier is due to take the first of the planes in mid-2024. With a range of 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometers), the jet offers IndiGo the chance to significantly expand its international network.

“The XLR is a couple of years down the road. We are working out what is happening with the network. But it is too early to say,” AirInsight reports an IndiGo official saying. Asked about longstanding plans for London Heathrow flights, the official said it was too far out to give a firm answer, adding the airline would need to make a decision about one year out in order to apply for slots there.

IndiGo has a 50% plus domestic market share. However, its international network is now limited to Asia (as far east as Guangzhou, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore Changi), the Gulf region, and as far west as Istanbul New. During a recent earnings call, CEO Rono Dutta also mentioned IATAT!LV, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, and even Milan Malpensa as other potential destinations currently on IndiGo's radar.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, IndiGo has a fleet of 273 aircraft including twenty-eight A320-200s, one hundred and forty-five A320-200Ns, sixty-five A321-200NXs, and thirty-five ATR72-600s. The airline also has a further 518 narrowbody jets on order from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) across the A320neo and A321neo families including sixty-nine A321neo(XLR)s and 252 A321neo.

Meanwhile, as an interim step before potentially launching its own flights to the UK, IndiGo announced a new codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) last week that will see carrier funnel passengers on and off Virgin Atlantic's multiple daily flights into India (2x daily to Delhi Int'l and daily to Mumbai Int'l). The agreement allows IndiGo to book its passengers through to the UK from multiple origin points in India.
