IndiGo offers up to 10% discount to vaccinated passengers
JUNE 23, 2021
IndiGo airline is offering a discount of up to 10 percent on the base fares to customers who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, the airline said in a press release on June 23.
The largest domestic airline in terms of market share in India becomes the first airline in the country to offer its customers a discount for getting vaccinated at a time when the Ministry of Civil Aviation has set a fare cap on seat pricing.
IndiGo said it expects its move to promote more people in India to go and get the COVID-19 vaccine.
"Being the largest airline in the country, we feel it is our responsibility to contribute to the national vaccination drive, by encouraging more people towards this common goal. This offer will not only strengthen their resolve towards vaccination but also ensure that they can travel safely at affordable fares with IndiGo," the airline said in a press release.
IndiGo said that the offer is only available to vaccinated passengers aged 18 years and above, who are located in India at the time of booking and have already received a Covid-19 vaccine in the country.
"Passengers who have availed the offer at the time of booking shall be required to furnish a valid Covid-19 vaccination certificate, issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Alternately, they can display their vaccination status on the Aarogya Setu mobile application at the airport check-in counter/boarding gate," the airline said in a press release. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Indigo to code share with American Airlines. AA is introducing DEL to New York JFK next month and may soon start flights from BLR to SEA (although I am still doubtful if it will happen). This will benefit only economy passengers and AA still interlines with AI if they want to offer business class connections to a few cities. |

Surprising that they are partnering with IndiGo and not Vistara. Looks like it is the low yield, high volume VFR and student crowd that they are targeting. Business travel is down following the pandemic, and looks unlikely to pick up in the coming few quarters. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Totally agree its all bout the connection especially that work for AA’s flight timings. I can see Indigo offering their first row as business like IAG’s Vueling does. This solves 90% of the issues. India doesn’t need true domestic J. It just needs EU business with the middle seat empty (lets J cabin grow or shrink as needed). For the 2 hour (if that) domestic connection all I need is a seat assignment and seamless check in bag transfer. That is all. Many AA partners you don’t get the boarding pass but do get bag and seat |

It should work for connections to mid tier cities especially for those which dont have one stop connections to NY area. However, at least for DEL, since Indigo has many flights from T2 and AA will be in T3, transfers will be a hassle as it will be by bus.
For the time being I dont think AA will offer business class connections, unless those passengers want to go through bus transfer and sit in economy. |
