India's security situation is quite different from those of other countries, where such arrangements have worked fine.

At least someone in AAI is thinking of this pressing problem!! | Sir, the airport director has cleared the F-27 and HS-748 out. The 9I AT42 has also been taken out. The other derelict B732 will also be taken out soon. There are some other derelict aircraft as well (smaller ones). The DC-3 is in bad shape: it is possibly breaking into two. From what I know, there is no plan to take it to Bhubaneshwar and install it in either of the two impressive terminals. This is possibly doomed to get broken up soon.

India Wants to Make Russia's Su-30MKI Air Superiority Fighter Great Again. https://www.yahoo.com/news/india-wants-russias-su-30mki-013000861.html
Key point: India needs more advanced fighters to compete with China's military modernization.
Indications in recent months suggest that the upgrade program for India’s fleet of Su-30MKI fighters is finally gathering pace. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has so far placed orders for 272 aircraft, of which 50 were delivered by Russia in 2002-2004 and 2007. Another 222 are to be supplied by the HAL Corporation; production under Russian license began at HAL’s Indian facilities in 2004. So far, more than 200 planes have already been delivered, and the Su-30MKI is the most numerous of the multirole fighters currently in service with the IAF. (more)

Key point: If carriers are too expensive and vulnerable, perhaps a lot of long-range missiles would be more useful in a war.
The U.S. military should consider buying a huge arsenal of long-range, hypersonic missiles instead of trying to maintain a large fleet of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.

Nuclear Nightmare? Russia’s Avangard Hypersonic Missile Is About to Go Operational. https://www.yahoo.com/news/nuclear-nightmare-russia-avangard-hypersonic-060000286.html
The Avangard is a nuclear-armed glider that travels at hypersonic (faster than Mach 5) speed. Lofted high into the atmosphere atop an ICBM, the glider descends on to its target with such velocity that it will be difficult to intercept the weapon.
“The boost-glide vehicle is capable of flying at over 20 times the speed of sound in the dense layers of the atmosphere, maneuvering by its flight path and its altitude and breaching any anti-missile defense,” said TASS. That last part is key: this is Moscow’s response to U.S. ballistic missile defense, which has stoked Kremlin fears that America will out to neutralize Russia’s nuclear deterrent.

Recent infrastructure upgrade at NSCBI airport:
Digital globe is displaying recent satellite pictures of NSCBI airport at low resolution. So far Google earth did not display any such picture. Massive apron and taxiway construction going in following areas: R19 turning pad, areas adjacent to cargo apron and west side of secondary runway. It seems to be early stage construction of taxiway F north. There are some construction activity near L19 turning pad and near VOR area. New apron construction also going on near south side hangar complex opposite to international terminal.
Once these activities are completed NSCBI airport will look very different. I thank AAI for a bold and timely initiative; hopefully NSCBI will be a 50M pax airport soon. Please view at www. https://discover.digitalglobe.com/ go to Kolkata subarea and enlarge. _________________ Sabya99 |

China plans to sell its first aircraft carrier, “Liaoning”, to Pakistan, in order to allow it to compete with India.
This sale is expected to boost Pakistan Navy’s strength, help match the Indian counterpart and improve Pakistan’s military relations with China
Comment: This will create a dangerous situation for India and vast amount of resources have to be poured in developing Indian naval air arm and sub surface navy. Port of Gwadar is ideal for such operation. I think this is Chinese revenge action for Doklam crisis. |
What a bunch of jokers!
Pakistan is nowhere near the Indian Ocean to begin with. By the time their hand me down aircraft carrier and its flotilla of warships exit the Arabian Sea , they will be reduced to pulp by Indian coastal defences.
In any case, aircraft carriers are an outdated doctrine in naval warfare. They are too big, need too much support, are too visible and don't have much of an impact when the opposing side is also equipped with them.
Nuclear submarines armed with nukes are the real deal. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

In an emergency India allows OCI or any other person if they have a compelling need. So they should be able to visit India. And being an OCI it will be easier to show compelling need as they will have ties to India.
But the recent ban from EU is for everyone including Indian citizens. How are they going to enforce that as some Indians may have gone to EU for a short stay. |

China displays military prowess in Ladakh skirmish with India.
According to a Business Insider report, there might not exist an official number of the troops deployed by each side, although according to a military expert, Liang Guoling, around 40,000 Chinese soldiers are at the border, with standby reinforcements from Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang and Sichuan.
The Hong Kong-based military expert said that China has deployed nine combined arms brigades, with requisite expertise in artillery, air defence, mountain infantry, chemical, nuclear and electronic warfare, said the publication.
Since the first escalation of conflict in 2017 in Doklam, a tri-junction border which is disputed between China and India-backed Bhutan, China has ramped up its military arsenal considerably.
The PLA has weapons such as the Type 15 tank, Z-20 helicopter, GJ-2 attack drone and PCL-181 advanced vehicle-mounted howitzer, said the report quoting Global Times. (more)
