GoAir seeks more flying rights to Thailand

Jan 16, 2019

GoAir is looking for an increase in flying rights to Thailand amid growing air passenger traffic, according to a senior airline official.

GoAir Vice-President (International) Arjun Dasgupta said the airline wants to launch flights from seven more Indian cities, including Chandigarh and Lucknow, to Phuket.

Currently, it has direct flights to Phuket from Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Dasgupta said the government should consider increasing flying rights to Thailand in view of growing passenger traffic between India and Thailand.

"The airlines of both the countries have almost exhausted their seat quotas and we are pushing for an increase in flight rights," he said here.

Didnt know they had planned Istanbul as well https://im.rediff.com/money/2016/jul/13go.jpg

When did Go drop their multicolour livery concept? and why didnt they keep saffron as their standard livery colour instead of the generic blue? thought after IC that colour would be most sought after but no Indian carrier took it on other than Go only to drop it, tiny bits of it used on AI and SG dont count.

GoAir’s fleet operations down to 75-77% amid management churn

Apr 11, 2019

Struggling to find a stable management team for a long time, Wadia Group’s GoAir is operating only 75% to 77% of the 47 Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet. The low cost carrier’s latest CEO resigned this February, after barely eight months into the job. There has been a significant management churning at the top in past few months and the airline, which started flying in 2005, remains the smallest among its contemporaries like IndiGo and SpiceJet.

“The airline is currently flying 35 to 36 aircraft. Network still remains a weak area for the airline,” said a person in the know. Other Indian carriers like IndiGo, SpiceJet, AirAsia India and Vistara are trying to increase flights by getting unutilised slots of Jet Airways at Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore airports.

A GoAir spokesperson said: “The airline business has to factor lean and peak seasons from multiple perspectives, including sales, marketing and maintenance of aircraft. Efficient and smart airlines across the world undertake ‘scheduled’ maintenance and repair work of aircraft during lean season so as to take full advantage of the peak season.”

“At GoAir, we follow this business principle of undertaking ‘scheduled’ maintenance and engineering checks of the aircraft so that GoAir has maximum capacity to cater to in the ensuing peak season. These checks are done purely from sales-demand perspective. Thus, maintenance and engineering checks are essentially part of our business strategy and network planning. The scheduled maintenance and engineering checks will not affect GoAir’s existing flight schedule in any manner,” the airline spokesperson added.

GoAir’s latest CEO Cornelis Vrieswijk, who quit this February, had taken over after Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, an ace aviation veteran with rich experience at both Indian and foreign carriers, quit GoAir in December 2017 after disagreement with the promoter Wadia Group to join rival IndiGo as COO. Airline MD Jeh Wadia is performing the CEO’s role till a replacement is found.

GoAir has ordered 144 Airbus A320 Neos. A senior government official said the airline’s plan was to return the older version of A320s and instead use the fuel-efficient A320 neos as they join the fleet.

Speaking on the issue of grounded fleet, the airline said its “strategy is to stay competitive as well as profitable. Neo technology provides 15–20% better fuel efficiency as compared to the Ceo technology. It is in this context that we have decided to have all A320 Neo fleet and eventually phase out our A320 Ceo fleet. Our plan is to sub-lease most of our A320 Ceo fleet and therefore these aircraft have to undergo ‘re-delivery engineering’ checks.”

GoAir, which had last October started international flights, currently has 1,600 weekly flights across a network of 24 domestic and four international destinations — Phuket, Male, Muscat and Abu Dhabi. It has been recording the highest domestic on-time performance for last five months among domestic airlines.

GoAir to launch 28 new flights from April 26

April 24, 2019

GoAir Wednesday said it will launch 28 additional flights, including eight services from its hub in Mumbai and seven from New Delhi, starting April 26.

Its bigger rivals, IndiGo and SpiceJet, have already announced the rollout of additional flights from the city following the temporary grounding of Jet Airways and a subsequently steep reduction in capacity, mainly in the domestic market amid peak demand season.

GoAir announced 28 flight options this summer in addition to our existing flights. There are two sectors that GoAir is launching for the first time, namely, Delhi-Nagpur-Delhi and Delhi-Kochi-Delhi," GoAir managing director Jeh Wadia said in a release.

The airline also announced fare as low as Rs 1,368 on select routes, he added.

As per the company, the rollout of 28 additional flights covering across airports will alleviate the shortage of flights and inconvenience caused to passengers due to the Jet Airways flight cancellations, the release said.

Ahmedabad, Goa, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Pune and Kochi are the other airports from where new flights are being added, it said.

GoAir also said that all services with flight numbers starting from G82000 to G82999 will depart and arrive at Terminal 2 of the Mumbai airport, effective April 26.

GoAir has removed a A320 (VT-WAJ, MSN 3827, age 10.3 years) from the fleet on 15 June 2019.

Do they have access aircraft? Although added 4 A320neo in last 2 months, other airlines are adding aircraft to get 9W slots instead of returning.

GoAir Receives Milestone 50th Airbus A320

July 8, 2019

GoAir received a milestone 50th Airbus A320 last Thursday, and has plans to add one A320 a month going forward.

Since November of 2017, the Mumbai based carrier has doubled its fleet of 20 Airbus A320s to 50, following the first deliveries of their new A320neos. Over the course of 2018, GoAir took delivery of 17 A320neo aircraft, but has slowed down the delivery rate having only received four A320neos in 2019.

Bhutan set to welcome first foreign carrier - report

23.07.2019

GoAir is planning to launch flights from Delhi Int'l to Paro in Bhutan, with an announcement expected shortly, Indian news agency PTI has reported citing internal sources.

Once the flights are confirmed, GoAir will become the first foreign carrier to operate to Bhutan.

The Himalayan landlocked kingdom is largely inaccessible due to extremely challenging terrain that limits the size of aircraft capable of operating to and from Paro. Special pilot training is also required for approaches. According to the ch-aviation capacities module, Paro is currently served by Drukair (KB, Paro) and Bhutan Airlines (B3, Paro). Both airlines operate A319-100s. Drukair also operates ATR turboprops.

Both Bhutanese carriers operate daily between Paro and Delhi with two weekly Drukair flights and four of Bhutan Airlines' operating via Kathmandu.

It is amazing all the flight INTL flights that have been added from BOM/DEL post Jet. I know Jet had a lot of lift in those cities but they also had hubs there. I am surprised that other cities don't warrant flights. I guess BOM/DEL deliver better ROI or most Indian airlines are myopically focused on them?

GoAir denies plans to fly to Bhutan

27.07.2019

GoAir has denied having plans to fly to Paro and becoming the first foreign carrier to serve the secluded kingdom of Bhutan, The Economic Times has reported.

"Currently we have no plans to operate a flight to Bhutan from New Delhi," the LCC said in a statement to the newspaper.

The Indian newswire PTI previously reported that GoAir would launch flights to Paro with an announcement expected shortly.

The Himalayan landlocked kingdom is largely inaccessible due to extremely challenging terrain that limits the size of aircraft capable of operating to and from Paro. Special pilot training is also required for approaches. According to the ch-aviation capacities module, Paro is currently served by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. Both airlines operate A319-100s. Drukair also operates ATR turboprops.

Both Bhutanese carriers operate daily between Paro and Delhi Int'l with two weekly Drukair flights and four of Bhutan Airlines' services operating via Kathmandu.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, GoAir does not operate A319-100s. The Indian LCC operates sixteen A320-200s and thirty-five A320-200neo.

GoAir mulls order for 200 narrow- and 20 wide-bodies

17.10.2019

GoAir has reportedly invited Airbus and Boeing to submit bids for a total of 20 wide- and 200 narrow-body aircraft, Business Standard has written.

Managing Director Jeh Wadia said that the LCC was planning to add one aircraft every month going forward.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, GoAir currently operates sixteen A320-200s and thirty-seven A320-200neo. The airline has a further 107 A320neo on firm order from Airbus. The LCC is in the process of replacing all its A320ceo with A320neo. It has been mulling over the launch of widebody operations for some time although it has yet to announce any official plans in this market segment.

GoAir's rival LCC, IndiGo Airlines, is also mulling entering the widebody segment but is similarly wary about this step and has not confirmed it yet.

The airline has re-instated flights to Male with 3x weekly from Mumbai and Delhi and 2x weekly from BLR. I think it is subject to change

GoAir suspends flights; blames A320neo delays

28.01.2020

GoAir has been forced to temporarily ‘suspend certain flights’ due to the unplanned grounding of existing aircraft and delays in the delivery of its A320-200neo. However, the airline reiterated that it remains on track to meet capacity expansion targets, according to customer note posted on its official Facebook account.

Over the last four weeks, it has suffered from unscheduled aircraft groundings. In addition, it has now be informed by Airbus and Pratt & Whitney of "their inability to deliver previously promised aircraft and engines through March 9, 2020." The airline said that it had "undertaken these [flight] suspensions as far ahead of time as possible in order to minimise the inconvenience to our customers" and that it intended to "reinstate these flights and operate at the earliest opportunity."

The low-cost carrier has firm orders for 144 A320neo and remains on track for double-digit growth; it has grown by a robust 30% per annum for each of the last three years.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, the LCC has a fleet of forty-three A320-200neo and sixteen A320-200s in service. However, A320neo VT-WGO (msn 7871) has been inactive since December 11, Flightradar24 ADS-B data. Other GoAir aircraft currently listed as inactive include:
•A320-200, VT-WAH (msn 3616), in maintenance since late October;
•A320-200, VT-WAG (msn 3597), in maintenance since early November;
•A320-200, VT-WAF (msn 3306), in maintenance since late December, and;
•A320-200, VT-GOI (msn 5016), in maintenance since late November.

Something tells me IndiGo will try to acquire GoAir.
They fly the same aircraft type, so the integration should be smooth. In fact, all they need to do is to repaint the planes and they are good to go.
GoAir gets a breather and IndiGo gets to eliminate another competitor. Win-win for both.
