United NW19 International service changes as of 13SEP19

United during the weekend of 13SEP19’s schedule update filed additional international service changes for Northern winter 2019/20 season, from 26/27OCT19.
As of 13SEP19, latest adjustment as follows.

San Francisco – New Delhi
eff 05DEC19 1 daily 787-9
Subject to Government Approval

It will be interesting to see how AI will perform after the UA flight starts. Likely they will scale it back to daily from the current 10 or 11 times weekly. But AI will have good connecting traffic compared to UA.

If they scale the flights to daily from SFO, AI should try LA again as the traffic on the DEL to/from LAX is fairly decent for at least 3 or 4 times weekly and there is no competition for non stop flights.

This is quite probable. The route sees excellent O&D from the Silicon Valley. UA will have a good aircraft on the route, but will be disadvantaged by the default restrictive baggage allowance. It is also quite clear that UA will consistently desist from code-sharing with AI, something that would otherwise benefit both parties extensively.

I am not too sure about this. The LA market sees completely different dynamics. AI was lucky that there had been a thorough SFO route study when the PM suddenly announced the connection. IAH is perhaps a better bet, but I doubt if AI will like to expand more until the privatisation actually happens, or it fails. From what I hear, AI has studies these routes quite well. Right now, AI will perhaps not have the aircraft to handle expansion. Aircraft are coming on-line rapidly, in the lead to the privatisation bid. Let us hope for the best!

I thought DEL-LAX was a top 3 most underserved route from DEL. I think 3/4X per week to LAX would be a great move. AI is not a business airline. It does well with VFR and India origin. In SF it got business travelers because UA was not there. AI will still do fine post UA, but more than 7X is probably overkill. Also I am surprised AI have not increased IAD to 5X-7X. 3X just doesn't truly unlock a route's potential.

From what I know, LAX still does not make the cut with the O&D numbers, and the *A connections now.

This is possibly true. The market will possibly support two flights a day, one from UA and one from AI. Both the business crowd, as well as the Y one.

Again from what I know, the post-*A and post-increase in India-US Governmental traffic, 3x makes the cut, and still makes sense. Second, this is not due to aircraft not being available. As of today (15 Nov), there is only one B77W (`Manipur', VT-ALQ) which is under Mx (not counting the two reserved for exclusive VIP ops, and two more which have made quick pit stops at the NAG MRO, of late). AI has been getting its AOG birds back in the air relatively well.
