Air Odisha gets flying permit, to begin operations on February 17 from Gujarat

Bhubaneswar-based Air Odisha has received regulatory approvals to begin scheduled passenger commuter services under the regional connectivity scheme.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Tuesday issued Air Odisha the scheduled commuter operator permit, which allows the airline to launch its services on regional routes, an Air Odisha official said, adding till now it had only a non-scheduled operator permit.

“We got flying permit today. We will launch operations as a scheduled commuter airline from the 17th of this month with flight services to Mundra from Ahmedabad,” Air Odisha operations head Santosh rpt Santosh Pani told PTI over phone today.

The maiden flight will be inaugurated by Gujarat chief miniser Vijay Rupani, he said, adding that flights to Jamnagar from Ahmedabad will also begin on the same day.

“The Ahmedabad-Diu service is scheduled for February 25 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to flag off the flight,” an official said.
Air Odisha had bagged 50 routes under the subsidised regional connectivity scheme last March. Pani said the airline has acquired a 19-seater Beechcraft B-1900D plane and two more will join the fleet by the month-end.

As per the schedule, it will begin services from New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Chennai to various underserved airports in Odisha, Gujarat, UP, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra and Puducherry.

Air Odisha has already forged a strategic partnership with Air Deccan, which bagged 34 routes, under which the two will share each other’s network and resources to cut cost.

Collectively, the two airlines plan to operate 108 flights daily connecting 67 airports over the next few months, with a combined fleet of 12 Beechcraft B-1900Ds.

Air Odisha suspends flight operations between Ahmedabad and Diu

The Air Odisha flight connecting Ahmedabad and Diu has been suspended following a technical problem with the engine of the 18-year-old Beechcraft 1900D, from today.

The airline had started services from Ahmedabad to Jamnagar, Mundra and Diu last month under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

The Ahmedabad-Diu service was the last to be launched on February 24.

Air Odisha, which launched its flight services to Mundra, Jamnagar and Diu from Ahmedabad recently under the Central government's regional connectivity scheme Udan, has said it will expand operations to two new destinations from tomorrow.

Air Odisha will connect Bhavnagar and Surat with the capital city Ahmedabad, starting from April 16, a release said.

The announcement comes weeks after the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which is the implementing agency for Udan scheme, serving a notice to Air Odisha and Air Deccan to commence services on all the routes bagged by them in the first round of bidding within a month time.

The Bhubaneswar-based scheduled commuter airline is 60 per cent owned by two Ahmedabad firms- Gujarat State Export Corporation Limited (GSEC) and Monarch Netwroth Capital, while the rest 40 per cent stake are with the original promoter, the Pani family.

The airline also announced fares starting as low as Rs 1,420 for the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar flight and Rs 1,699 for a one-way trip to Surat from Bhavnagar.

"We are proud to launch two more new routes in Gujarat within two months since the launch of our operations," Air Odisha managing director and GSEC executive director Shaishav Shah said on the proposed new routes launch.

"We take pride in becoming a part of the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (Udan) scheme, which is a great initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a vision to make flying more affordable for the common man and also fuel economic growth," he said.

Air Odisha launches flights from Vizag to Jagdalpur via Raipur

Air Odisha commenced services today, from Andhra Pradesh to Chhattisgarh with the launch of a flight to Jagdalpur from Visakhapatnam via Raipur. The services launched under the Udan regional connectivity scheme of the central government were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing, Air Odisha said in a release.

With Jagdalpur now connected by air from capital city Raipur, the travel distance between the two cities has been reduced to 40 minutes, against 15 hours by a train or six to seven hours by a road journey, the release added. The airfare for a single-way journey has been kept at Rs 1,670, which is in line with the Rs. 2,500 ticket price fixed for a one-hour journey under the Udan scheme.

“We are happy to announce the launch of our new routes in Chhattisgarh connecting with Andhra Pradesh. The Udan is a flagship scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spur economic growth and make air travel more affordable,” said Mr Shaishav Shah, managing director, Air Odisha Aviation, and executive director, GSEC.

Air Odisha to dilute stake to Sharjah-based NRI crude oil company

Air Odisha is all set to take a Sharjah-based NRI investor on board as it seeks to tap fresh capital to fuel its expansion plans and the announcement to this effect is likely to be made soon, a source said.

The Bhubaneshwar-based airline has also brought in industry veteran Bhupesh Joshi as its chief executive officer ahead of bringing in the new Sharjahbased partner, the source said.

Air Odisha is currently 60 per cent owned by two Ahmedabad-headquartered firms --GSEC Aviation-Monarch Networth Capital-- and the rest 40 per cent stake is with original promoter Radhakanta Pani family.

"However, GSEC Aviation-Monarch Networth have decided to partially offload their stake to the Sharjah-based crude oil firm Ghalia Petrol LLP. The two partners have already signed the term-sheet and are expected to make an announcement on the deal soon," the source told PTI.

The decision was taken at Air Odisha Pvt Ltd's board meeting held in Bhubaneswar last month, the source added.

Air Odisha managing director Shaishav Shah confirmed to PTI that the airline was getting a new investor in addition to the existing promoters to infuse fresh capital, adding that it had already signed an agreement to clinch the deal.

"I can just confirm that we have signed the contract with a Sharjah-based company which is into crude oil trade. We will very soon be making a joint statement on the proposed deal," Shah said.

AAI cancels Air Odisha’s UDAN license for poor performance

November 24, 2018

The Airport Authority of India has served a termination clause to Air Odisha for failing to operate 70 per cent of its scheduled flights over the last three months, as per the Director of Biju Patnaik International Airport (Bhubaneswar) Suresh Chandra Hota on Friday. “AAI has sent them (Air Odisha) a letter which includes Clause 17 (termination clause) because they have failed to operate 70 per cent of their scheduled flights over the last three months”, Hota said to the press, adding, “If they can avail legal options, so can we”.

Last month, the Civil Aviation Ministry had issued a show cause notice to the airline operator. The ministry’s Twitter account stated: “Jharsuguda Airport is a full fledged functional airport and available for all domestic scheduled & non-scheduled operations. The selected Airline under UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) has been issued with showcause for discontinuing their operations quoting technical reasons. Non commencement within prescribed period would lead for cancellation of current award. Routes would be opened for bidding & allocated to eligible Airlines for better connectivity.”
