Finally, someone decides to connect the fashion and trade capital of Italy to its Indian counterpart with a direct flight.

Air Italy will do well. They have a frequent flier program with miles redeemable on BA, IB and possibly QR in the future. From MXP, they also offer good connections to JFK, MIA, LGW and a few other European and African destinations.

AI must be doing fairly ok on its Italy routes. Could have prompted Alitalia earlier (from DEL) and now Air Italy (from BOM) to start the flights.

Both flights connect beautifully to their MXP-JFK flight both ways.

It is very clear what traffic Air Italy is after.

They'll need more than JFK connections to make BOM/DEL work. All of a sudden it seems like there is a lot of capacity between India and Italy - AI, Air Italy and AZ. All that is left is BOM-FCO - but I think Jet and AZ shouldn't launch that now. Probably better for Jet to launch BOM-MAD with connections on UX.
