Can Hubli (Or Hubbali) handle an A320?
Has anyone else flown big jets there?
Or will Indigo operate using a ATR72?

HBX was recently expanded to handle narrow-body jets. AI operates a daily BLR-HBX-BOM.

Yes it can. Runway length is 2600m which is fine for a A320. Hubli have a VOR DME Approach for Runway 26 which is used as a primary landing runway and as per the latest approach charts the airport can handle CAT A/B/C aircraft's which means it can handle narrow-body aircraft's like A319/A320/B737/B738 etc.

IndiGo announces Jorhat, Dhaka as new destinations; adds 16 new flights

Jun 12, 2018

IndiGo on Tuesday announced the launch of Jorhat and Dhaka as its new destinations. Under the UDAN scheme, Jorhat will be the 54th and Dhaka, the 55th destination on IndiGo network, said a press statement issued by the airline. Both new services will start from August 1, 2018.

"To provide more enhanced connectivity across India, IndiGo has announced the addition of 16 new flights to its network," it added. Effective August 2018, IndiGo will operate its first daily flight between Bengaluru and Raipur. Additionally, the airline will operate a second daily flight between Kolkata and Nagpur, a third daily between Bengaluru and Nagpur and then a fourth daily between bengaluru and Jaipur and Bengaluru and Vizag respectively. Other addition is the fourth daily between Kolkata and Patna.

"The new flights are designed to cater to business and leisure travellers from these cities, who are constantly on the lookout for new and affordable flying options," the airline said.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/indigo-hikes-excess-baggage-charge-for-domestic-flights-by-33/articleshow/64707769.cms

IndiGo hikes excess baggage charge for domestic flights by 33%

Jun 23, 2018

Carrying over 15 kg check-in baggage on IndiGo domestic flights will now cost about one-third or 33% more. The low cost carrier steeply hiked the charges for pre-booking 5, 10, 15 and 30 kg (beyond the free 15 kg) on its domestic routes to Rs 1,900; Rs 3,800; Rs 5,700 and Rs 11,400, respectively, from Friday (June 22). Domestic flyers not pre-booking excess baggage will now need to pay Rs 400 per kg for each kilo beyond the allowed 15 kg.

Last August, the LCC had set its pre-booking charges for 5, 10, 15 and 30 kg (beyond the free 15 kg) at Rs 1,425; Rs 2,850; Rs 4,275 and Rs 8,550, respectively. And flyers who did not pre-book were required to pay Rs 300 per kg for each kilo beyond the allowed 15 kg. All these charges have now been hiked by 33%.

Till last August, airlines could charge only Rs 500 for the first five kg beyond the 15-kg limit + for domestic flyers due to a DGCA order. Beyond 20 kg, they could charge any amount. Airlines challenged that DGCA order in courts and were allowed to set excess baggage charges beyond 15 kg itself.

With IndiGo hiking excess baggage charges for domestic flyers by 33%, other airlines are likely to follow suit. Among Indian carriers, only Air India has a 25-kg free check-in baggage limit for domestic flyers.

This is the second hike by IndiGo in recent days. The airline had reintroduced fuel surcharge for domestic flights from May 30, due to rising aircraft fuel cost and depreciating Indian rupee. As this surcharge, it had decided to levy Rs 200 on routes less than 1000 km, and Rs 400 on routes longer than 1000 km distance.

Kya Surat Hai! IndiGo to start Surat operations in August. Will there be a surprise?

Complete post on the link above

The Suratis are rejoicing and for a reason! IndiGo – country’s leading airline by market share has announced flights to Surat connecting Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Jaipur effective 16th August 2018. This will make IndiGo the fourth scheduled airline at Surat which recently saw AirAsia India start services. Spicejet and Air India are the other scheduled operators.

The airline has gone all out in to the market after a very long time. The last two years have seen IndiGo being plagued by delivery delays of the Airbus A320neo owing to the engines issues. The airline had opted for Pratt & Whitney engines for its A320neo and the engine issues have led to the airline looking at the lease market to add capacity. Some of the A320ceo which it has inducted are as old as 14 years. The induction this year has largely been driven by the ATR where the airline has added multiple frequencies on same route in quick succession in the southern states of India.

The all-out entry into Surat has brought back another thing – cheeky branding. Kya Surat Hai! Joins some of the earlier cheeky branding like IndiPo to Chennai, O man! And Sheikh it, baby, which was how the airline launched flights to Chennai, Muscat and Dubai.

Surat will be connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Jaipur. However, these are replacements and not new fleet additions. A combination of lack of aircraft inductions and slot constraints at Mumbai and Delhi has meant that the airline has reduced one frequency each on Mumbai – Hyderabad – Mumbai, Delhi – Trivandrum – Delhi and has pulled out of Jaipur – Jammu – Jaipur to accommodate Mumbai – Surat, Delhi – Surat – Bengaluru and 3x weekly Jaipur – Surat flights.

IndiGo airlines grounds 5 A320neo due to engine issues

IndiGo has grounded five A320neo at Delhi Int'l due to technical issues with Pratt & Whitney PW1100 Geared Turbo Fan engines, the Times of India has reported.

"The release of additional spare engines has been initiated by P&W [Pratt & Whitney] so that all aircraft are expected to be back in service in the second half of August," the airline said.

Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows that the grounded units are: VT-ITN (msn 7252), VT-ITR (msn 7396), VT-ITT (msn 7504), VT-ITY (msn 6946), and VT-ITZ (msn 7892). Additionally, VT-ITK (msn 7001) has been grounded at Coimbatore since July 25 in what seems to be an unrelated development.

IndiGo airline stops operation of its sixth A320 Neo aircraft

Aug 07, 2018

IndiGo has grounded another of its A320 Neo aircraft, the airline confirmed today, making it the sixth aircraft to be stopped from operations since July. The aircraft has been grounded at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here.

The airline maintained that the aircraft was grounded because it was undergoing a routine engine change.

"An IndiGo Neo has been grounded and is undergoing a routine engine change. There is no impact on our flight operations," the airline said in a statement, but did not elaborate further.

According to sources, the plane was relatively new and was grounded yesterday. On July 25, the airline informed it grounded five A320 Neo aircraft due to Pratt & Whitney engine issues, and that they were expected to be back in operations in the second half of August.

An IndiGo spokesperson had said that five A320 Neos have been taken out of service pro-actively and await spare engines from Pratt & Whitney.
During the day, Pratt & Whitney also issued a statement saying "it is working closely with operators to address aircraft taken out of service as per established engine inspection plans".

"Engine removals are being planned and coordinated with the airlines as we continue to successfully retrofit the fleet with the latest configuration engines. Some aircraft will be out of service temporarily as they perform these removals. Spare engines are now becoming available, with the objective to support aircraft availability in August and onward. We will continue to work with each airline while we incorporate enhancements to their fleet," Pratt & Whitney said in the statement.

P&W engine woes had forced the airline to ground some of the A320 Neo aircraft on earlier occasions also.

IndiGo eyes London Gatwick for UK debut

10.09.2018

IndiGo Airlines is targetting London Gatwick as its inaugural destination in the United Kingdom, internal company communications seen by The Financial Express have revealed.

The report said the low-cost carrier has begun advertising for crew placements in the London capital alongside Yangon (Myanmar), Istanbul (Turkey), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). According to The Hindu newspaper, IndiGo has already been awarded slots at London Gatwick for use during the 2018/19 Winter Season.

Service to the United Kingdom would be operated by IndiGo's incoming fleet of A321neo(LR)s. However, while the reports have pointed to a possible November delivery of the jets, ch-aviation understands that they may now only begin arriving from March 2019 onwards.

Including the standard variant A321neo, IndiGo has a total of twenty-five of the type on order from Airbus, the first of which are due to arrive towards year-end. The carrier plans to use the jets to extend its network to destinations in China, the Middle East, and South East Asia

"We have also secured traffic rights to fly to cities like Abu Dhabi Int'l, Kuala Lumpur Int'l, Kuwait, Malι, Jeddah, and Hong Kong Int'l," Interim CEO Rahul Bhatia said in a 1QFY18/19 earnings call in July. "We are evaluating all such opportunities to expand our network and provide many more choices to our customers."

Later this winter season, IndiGo will also inaugurate Vijayawada's first international flights with service to Singapore Changi. The 2x weekly return service will commence on October 2 using A320-200 equipment.

Some of their new routes look like desperate measures to keep planes in the air, no matter what the cost.

Vijayawada -Singapore? Seriously?
