@747-237 Did AI ever operate its 742s with only the three windows in its upper deck, similar to the 747-100? If so, when and why did they shift to the config with more windows?

Yes, indeed, they did - the first 5 were delivered with upper deck lounges (no seats) and in a 3 window configuration.
4 (after the loss of the "Emperor Ashoka) were later sent back to Seattle for retrofitting - the 3-windowed hull of the upper deck was replaced with the more conventional one, with more windows, by the early 1980s; and the lounge replaced with business class seats.
If you are interested, the Architectural Digest (India edition) will carry a photo feature on this in their May 2018 issue. I was interviewed last month for the same, for my memories of the uppder deck lounge and gave AD access to my private collection of pictures. The article will be available online as well, on the Architectural Digest India website.

Cool. Thanks for the information.

I will definitely check out the Architectural Digest India website. Sure sounds very interesting.

Thank you. I have more models of other Indian carriers and a few military models in my collection, but since this thread is for Air India models only, I am going to stick with the theme.

Inflight 1:200 Air India Boeing 700-437 VT-DJK "Everest"

Hogan 1:200 Air India Express Boeing 737-800 VT-AXN

Thank you - it's a refreshing change to have a person stick to the original theme / post....we have had several issues with many A(i.net)-holes here, so its good to see someone understand the title and go by it.
Thanks again.

747-237: I am sure many of us will be interested in this. Will it be possible to share a link once the article is published?
Thanks a lot!

Just wanted to pass on this info, Vistara will be soon introducing models for sale onboard and possibly online of their A320Neo in 1:200 and the Retrojet A320Neo in 1:200, 1:150 and 1:100 scales. The 1:200 are made by Hogan and 1:100 and 1:150 are made by Risesoon. All models are ABS\Plastic.

Thought this news would be most apt to be shared here.

....uh, actually I'd rather not, if you don't mind. I'd like to limit this to Air India ones, since the thread tends to lose its authenticity when it deviates from the title. I admit to having posted my own IA models on here a long time ago, but have since ceased to do so. Hope you understand me trying to keep this thread about Air India. Thanks.

How do you manage to find real estate to keep these models. I believe at least a few of them would be on display. And I think you are in Mumbai Laughing

Aseem, all my models stay in Florida. Real Estate is only the second challenge, after Finance Smile

My model of the L-749 VT-CQP "Malabar Princess" was featured in the Mid-Day newspaper in Bombay, yesterday (9 June 2023).
That line should have read “50 years of the flight” rather than “of the carrier".
