Just when I was wondering how low these insane low fares to India from USA would go to, yesterday I just saw the first fare $493 from Newark to BOM and return Air China for travel in mid March and return in mid April.
The US and European and some Indian carriers are busy blaming ME3 and Turkish, here comes Air China with absurdly low fares. Air China is subsidized by China, but isn't this considered dumping ? |

Ive seen low fares form them before. It’s usually very limited to their off season (winter). But they only fly to either DEL right? I am in the crowd of the ME3 hurting Indian aviation and am not in favor of super govt subsidized airlines (we have AI). Air China doesn’t have the frequency or the brand to really affect DEL-USA fares. They offer connectivity between DEL and PEK. If to make it works, they have some months of low low fares, so be it. Now if they had 2X daily to DEL plus 5 other India cities like the ME3, then it becomes a problem. Having different airlines offering nonstop connectivity (even dirt cheap) is better than 3 airlines trying to dump seats to kill Indian airlines. |

Air China also flies to BOM. Yes their frequency to DEL is 5-6 times a week and BOM about 4 times a week, not enough to affect the yields as much, but when the fares are that low, the VFR crowd will sit up and notice. Also they have these kinds (around 700) of fares throughout the year, even during peak US summer. |
