Air Deccan to fly Udan flights in the northeast from 15 December
Shillong: Air Deccan is all set to start flight operations under the regional connectivity scheme, also known as Udan (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik), from 15 December this year, Shillong airport officials said Sunday.
Air Deccan will use Shillong as a hub and Udan flights from there will connect to other destinations in the northeast such as Agartala, Aizawl and Imphal, according to a top official of the Shillong airport. The airline will also operate flights between Kolkata and Agartala.
Under the government’s Udan regional connectivity scheme, air fares are capped at Rs2,500 per person for an hour’s flight to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in which the government will provide subsidy for flying with such low fares.
“Air Deccan authorities have given the schedule saying that they would start operating from 15 December this year,” said M.K. Nayak, the director of Shillong airport. Air Deccan will use an 18-20 seater aircraft for the Udan flights, he added.
The government recently asked Air Deccan to start operations from the region by making Shillong as a hub after the airline failed to meet the deadline for launching flights on the routes it had bagged under the Udan scheme. At present, Alliance Air, the regional arm of Air India, connects Shillong to Kolkata.
According to Nayak, since Shillong airport is a hub for regional connectivity, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has provided facilities for refuelling aircraft. In this regard, Oil India Ltd has also completed setting up the refuelling facility within the vicinity of the airport and another oil company is about to complete the refuelling facilities, he said. Nayak also said that a growth in the tourism sector is also expected once Air Deccan starts operating flights. The northeastern region will immensely benefit, he said. |

infact his credibility increased after the collapse of Kingfisher. The original Air Deccan could have probably survived had it not been gobbled up by Mallaya.

This is going to be yet another flop show in his long list.
Gopi has the reverse Midas touch - everything he touches turns to dust.
What about the so-called airline he was running in Gujarat? Has that gone the way of Air Deccan and Deccan 360? _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

So what happened? Did Air Deccan part 2 actually do any flights on dec 15, or was it another one of Gopi's flights of fantasy?

The first Air Deccan flight will take off on 22 December and fly to Mumbai from Nashik, Gopinath told Mint, speaking from his home in Bengaluru.

So what happened to the BOM-ISK today ? |
The scheduled commuter operator (SCO) permit to Air Deccan, which is promoted by G.R. Gopinath, was handed over to the airline this evening, an official at the DGCA told PTI on Friday. This paves the way for the airline, which till now was holding a non-scheduled operator permit, to fly on regional routes under the regional connectivity scheme that caps fares at Rs2,500 for an under-one-hour flight.
Air Deccan, which has bagged 34 routes in the first round of bidding for the scheme, has already announced the inaugural flight, which is set to take off for Jalgaon from Mumbai on Saturday.
http://www.livemint.com/Companies/4dCC9j17HGXkvwBrihex6L/Air-Deccan-gets-DGCA-nod-for-Udan-scheme-first-flight-on-Sa.html
So perhaps delay in obtaining the SCO caused the first flight to be pushed back and the route changed ?

Air Deccan makes first flight from Mumbai to Jalgaon
Dec 23 2017
Air Deccan, which ceased operations after being acquired by erstwhile Kingfisher Airlines in 2008, had its maiden run on Saturday with a UDAN flight from Mumbai to Jalgaon.
The Air Deccan flight DN 1320 took off for Jalgaon, around 400 km from Mumbai, from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Mumbai afternoon.
“It’s a sense of great beginning. A sense of being fortunate that Air Deccan is taking off again,” Air Deccan chairman Capt. G.R. Gopinath said.
There was a dream of taking flying to every possible corner of the country, which did not come to fruition because of Air Deccan’s merger with Kingfisher Airlines in 2008, he said. “Now I have the opportunity to relaunch operations across the country,” said Gopinath.
The flight was inaugurated by Maharashtra PWD minister Chandrakant Patil along with Gopinath.
The maiden flight, however, was marred by delay. The aircraft took off at around 2.55pm instead of the scheduled departure of 1.20pm. Air Deccan’s strategic partners Shaishav Shah of Ahmedabad-based GSEC Ltd and Himanshu Shah of Monarch Networth Capital as well as senior DGCA officials were on-board the inaugural flight.
Air Deccan has deployed a 19-seater plane, Beachcraft B-1900D (18 passengers and one crew member) on the Mumbai-Jalgaon flight. The same aircraft will come back to Mumbai and then fly to Nashik this evening. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Adani family buys Air Deccan; acquired 60% stake in Air Odisha
Feb 16, 2018
The Ahmedabad-based GSEC Aviation and Monarch Networth Capital have bought over the GR Gopinath-promoted Air Deccan, besides jointly acquiring majority stake in Air Odisha, which is set to launch its services on regional routes from tomorrow.
Significantly, GSEC Aviation is owned by Rakesh Ramanlal Shah, who is married to Prity, the sister of the USD 11-billion Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.
Under the new structure, both the airlines will be owned by a new company called GSEC Monarch Aviation in which Gopinath's Air Deccan will hold 50% stake while the rest will be held by GSEC Aviation and Monarch Networth.
Confirming the "strategic investment" in the two carriers, GSEC Aviation whole-time Director and Rakesh Shah's son Shaishav Shah said both Air Deccan as well as Air Odisha will now be run under a new holding company called GSEC Monarch Aviation.
Shah, however, did not disclose the investment being made into the two companies.
Under the new structure, the Radhakanta Pani family, which is the original promoter of the Bhubaneswar-based Air Odisha, will divest 60% of their stake to GSEC Aviation and Monarch Networth, he said.
"We are making a joint venture company called GESEC Monarch Aviation, which will be 50 % owned by GSEC Aviation and Monarch Networth Capital and the rest will be with Air Deccan," Shah told PTI.
The JV will hold 100% of Air Deccan and 60% of Air Odisha, he said, adding both GSEC Aviation and Monarch have acquired equal stake in the two carriers.
While Gopinath will be the chairman of the new entity, Shaishav Shah will be the managing director and Himanshu Shah of Monarch will be deputy managing director, he said.

So it is Gopi back to his old tricks again. It is fairly obvious that Air Deccan Part 2 is struggling. So history is repeating itself. First it was Mallya who played scapegoat buyer, and now it is the Adanis.

If someone voluntarily procures stake in an airline, how is it a trick ? _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. The Caveman who heard a rustle in the bushes and checked out to see what it was, lived longer than the guy, who assumed it was just a breeze.

So why else would Gopi sell the airline barely two months after it commenced operations?
The only reason I can think of is that it is fast going under.
As for Adani, like Mallya he may have his own reasons for acquiring it. Mallya acquired Air Deccan Part 1 solely for its international operating rights. Adani may have other reasons.
Gopi has found a buyer in Adani, and both are benefiting. You must give it to Gopi that he knows where he can wash his hands off once the going gets tough. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Air Deccan flights to Kolhapur, Nashik suspended
December 3, 2018
In a setback to the operation of flight services under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) in Maharashtra, Air Deccan flights to Kolhapur, Nashik and Jalgaon have been suspended after the Ministry of Civil Aviation terminated its contract with the airline. Air Deccan was inconsistent in operating flight services under the RCS, said officials.
The move has majorly affected almost 60 per cent of the RCS services in the state, as the airline connected the underserved airports (which do not have more than a flight a day), including Kolhapur and Jalgaon.
The airline, which resumed operations after a gap of almost 10 years, had won the right to operate RCS flights in the first round of bidding held in March 2017. It was awarded 34 routes across the country, with eight based out of Maharashtra.
While Air Deccan started services in Nashik under RCS from December 23, 2017 with the Nashik-Pune inaugural flight, the Nashik-Mumbai flight began operating from December 26, 2017.

Air Deccan Ceases Operations, All Employees Put On ''Sabbatical Without Pay''
April 05, 2020
Regional airliner Air Deccan announced on Sunday that it is ceasing its operations until further notice and all employees are being put on sabbatical without pay, the first Indian aviation company to succumb to the coronavirus crisis that has led to a 21-day lockdown and virtually paralysed the sector.
In an email to his employees, Air Deccan CEO Arun Kumar Singh said, "In view of the recent global and domestic issues and subsequent directive by the Indian regulator (to suspend all commercial passenger flights till April 14), Air Deccan has no choice but to cease its operations until further notice."
"With heavy heart, I am also compelled to inform that all existing employees of Air Deccan (permanent, temporary and contractual) are being put on sabbatical without pay with immediate effect," he added in the email, which has been accessed by PTI. Air Deccan has a fleet of four 18-seater Beechcraft aircraft to fly on regional routes in western India, focusing on Gujarat.
Singh said in his email: "Next week, the management will hold meetings with department heads for continuity of certain key personnel (with continuity of employment terms) to ensure that when the right time arrives, the airline can be restarted with nominal efforts."
"I personally assure you as and when Air Deccan recommences the operations under conducive circumstances, all existing employees will be offered first right of refusal for their current positions," he added.

Air Deccan looks for newer aircraft
28.04.2020
Air Deccan (DKN, Nashik) is using its COVID-19-induced grounding to proceed with the renewal of its fleet, Chief Executive Arun Kumar Singh told Cirium.
The Indian regional specialist has already resolved to return both of its Beech 1900Ds to their lessor and is currently talking to manufacturers about new equipment. Singh did not name any specific types but said Air Deccan was on the lookout for "smaller commuter aircraft".
Air Deccan suspended all operations and furloughed staff on April 5 until further notice.
"We can't keep pumping in money when there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Look what happened to Virgin Australia. The situation compared to other Indian carriers is not anyway extra bad for us; it’s just we saw that coming quickly," Singh said.
The airline, which traces its origins to India's first low-cost carrier Air Deccan (2003) (DN, Bangalore Int'l) (later rebranded as Kingfisher Red), relaunched in 2017 as a new regional airline using its bankrupt predecessor's brand. The new Air Deccan has chosen to focus on the regional market, boosted by the government-run UDAN subsidisation scheme, instead of reentering the now-crowded field of mainline LCCs.
