The US has banned electronic devices larger than a cell phone in the carry on luggage for non stop flights from 8 airports going to the US, this is effective in about 3 days and is indefinite. UK has also decided, but the cities/countries are different (excludes UAE, Qatar).

This could be an opportunity for AI (and UA, AC, Asian and Euro carriers) to cash in especially for the business travelers who are more likely to use their laptops. This could hurt EK, QR, TK, EY, KU particularly in the business class section (and even Jet which relies on EY to carry its passengers to US). Many companies prohibit their employees from checking in the company laptops. AI can market this in a clever way to appeal to passengers.

I agree with you. Surprised others here haven't responded. On airliners.net you get the usual India is low yield what does it matter blah blah blah. Its amazing to me how the West doesn't realize India's place in aviation nor how it has fueled the ME3's growth. That said, I initially thought it would be techies and younger professionals who wouldn't like the ban but then my mom asked me to rebook her ticket back from BOM. I was getting a great deal on EY in J and she said NO - because she didn't want to check her IPAD. She has had jewelry stolen from her bag in BOM and won't check anything of real value. I was amazed. Oh well, one booking not going to EY because of the ban. My mom also didn't value the gate check feature. She felt who will remember to collect the IPAD when you have immigration, collecting your checked baggage and then customs etc. I sort of agree. I am always nervous I will leave my garment bag in the closet of an airplane. I think Jet/DL should launch BOM-JFK nonstop and BLR, MAA, HYD to either CDG or AMS. This is the time for American and Indian airlines (using their partnerships) to pounce on the ME3. Hell launch Wifi onboard just to have an add showing a business person working on the plane.
