The Airbuses do not need to get fatter!


The A350s are going to have 9-abreast 3-3-3 seating in Y, so you're going to have middle seats galore. I suspect that some J cabins esp. in regional J configurations may have a 2-3-2 arrangement too.

Then if the 250 were fatter, we'd see 3-4-3 in Y and 2-2-2-2- or some such in J.

I'm sure someone out there's considering a 3-4-3 for the A350.

In fact, I won't be surprised if in a few years, we'll begin to see a 3-5-3 on the A380s.

Air Asia X has already said they will put 10 abreast Y in their 350s, eeks , fortunately others are sticking with 9 abreast.

Sadly the days of 2-3-2 767s and 2-4-2 Airbusses are numbered

Airbus names A350 flight-test crew

Airbus has named the six crew who will carry out the first flight of the A350-900, a group led by chief test pilot Peter Chandler.

Chandler, who was closely linked to the testing of the Airbus A380, will be joined by project test pilot Guy Magrin, a French former squadron leader and ex-A320 and A330 pilot.

The MSN1 crew will also comprise project test-flight engineer Pascal Verneau, who supported development testing of the A380 and A340-600.

Flight operations chief Fernando Alonso, flight-test engineer Emanuele Costanzo and head of development flight tests Patrick Du Che will comprise the other three MSN1 crew members.

Chandler will be piloting a maiden flight for the first time in his career.

Airbus has been familiarising the crew with MSN1 through twice-weekly simulator sessions, each lasting up to five hours, using its Aircraft Zero integrated test system. Aircraft Zero connects a simulated cockpit to the "iron bird" rig featuring the A350's primary control systems.

The airframer has yet to determine when MSN1 will conduct its first flight. Following the powering-up of its Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines on 2 June, the aircraft will undergo initial flight-control testing.

MSN1's ground-test regime will then move to taxiing and low-speed braking tests before the A350 undergoes high-speed braking, ahead of the aircraft becoming airborne for the first time.

Methinks this bird doesn't look attractive in flight.

It has a droopy nose and the rear fuselage looks too thin.

It is the airplane equivalent of a witch on a broomstick. The zorro mask around the cockpit windows only seems to accentuate this effect.

At quick glance it looks like a 757.

For something that's supposed to be Xtra Wide, it sure looks Xtra Narrow.

Airbus announces sale of first private A350 in Dubai

Airbus has announced the sale of its first A350 to a private customer, at a press conference in Dubai on Sunday.

The unnamed corporate customer will not receive the A350 until 2020, said Benoit Defforge, the president of the corporate jets division of the European aircraft manufacturer (Airbus Corporate Jets).

Qatar Airways officially receives first A350

Qatar Airways has formally received its first Airbus A350-900, the first example of the new jet to be handed to a customer.

The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-powered aircraft was delivered during a 22 December ceremony in Toulouse.

Handover comes eight years after the A350 programme, in its current guise, was launched by Airbus to take on the Boeing 777 and 787.

"After much anticipation, I am delighted that the day has come when we will welcome this latest generation aircraft into our rapidly expanding fleet," says Qatar Airways chief Akbar Al Baker.

"In the seven years since we first placed our order for this new aircraft type at the Paris Air Show, investing in a partnership programme with Airbus, there has been significant growth in the airline industry.

"I am confident that this increase in passenger numbers around the world will only increase further in the years to come."

Airbus had taken orders for 577 A350-900s by the end of November, along with 169 of the larger A350-1000. It also has residual orders for 32 A350-800s.

Well today i had seen a Qatar Airways A350xwb departing sharjah airport in the afternoon , i guess these are crew training & familiarisation flights & it looked Beautiful. Cool

First A350-1000 becomes airborne for its maiden flight

The first A350-1000 took off this morning for its maiden flight at Blagnac in Toulouse, France at 10.42 hrs local time. The A350-1000 is Airbus’ largest and most powerful twin-engined airliner ever – and the world’s most fuel efficient large widebody. Equipped with specially developed Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 turbofans, the A350-1000’s first flight is taking place over south-western France.

The crew in the cockpit on board this flight comprise: Hugues van der Stichel, Experimental Test Pilot; Frank Chapman, Experimental Test Pilot and Gérard Maisonneuve, Test-Flight Engineer. Furthermore, monitoring all the test parameters at the Flight-Test-Instrumentation (FTI) station behind the cockpit are: Patrick du Ché, Head of Flight & Integration Tests; Emanuele Costanzo, Head of A350 Development Flight Tests; and Stéphane Vaux, Flight-Test Engineer.

Benefitting from the experience of the original A350-900 test campaign (accomplished in 2014), the A350-1000’s development programme will be shorter – under one year for the three aircraft. The overall campaign will culminate in the type’s certification followed by its entry into airline service scheduled for the second half of 2017.
