To earn any miles on DL for Jet operated flights, you have to buy a higher priced ticket, and one does not get any medallion qualification miles, plus no lounge access either, unless they are travelling on business class. Unless Jet joins Skyteam, the benefits are limited.

So Delta announced that Skymiles members WILL receive full FF benefits on Jet. They just haven't revealed how earnings will work. I feel they will treat Jet like its tier 1 airlines (with whom they have JV's / investments). Let's see.

Is 9W restarting TRV-MAA? I can see a flight during certain days.

9W 835 TRV 0700 0825 MAA (Mo/Tu/We)
9W 836 MAA 2125 2240 TRV (Mo/Tu/We)

Any idea if this is a regular service? Does the a/c go on an international rotation after this? If yes - to where?

November 13, 2016

Jet Airways plans to operate flight services to south pacific nation Fiji and Chinese city of Shanghai and is likely to tie up with Fiji Airways and China Eastern Airlines as it seeks to expand its global network further with direct flights and forging partnership with overseas carriers.

I thought so too, ... the first sentence says "Jet Airways plans to operate flight services to south pacific nation Fiji and Chinese city of Shanghai and is likely to tie up with Fiji Airways and China Eastern Airlines". As always, it's clear as mud. Angrezi is confusion, yes. As our resident aviation anal-yst would say, I 'blindly copied' it. Rolling Eyes Wink

One of the three A332 leased by Jet Airways to Turkish, VT-JWH/TC-JIL has been withdrawn from active service by Turkish, and stored. Perhaps she will be back in India in the near future.

a) Goa-Abu Dhabi was always seasonal. And it always ended by 01FEB17.

b) he missed the end of Chennai-Abu Dhabi from 15JAN.

Jet Airways expands codeshare pact with Kenya Airways

Nov 15, 2016

Jet Airways today said it has expanded its existing codeshare pact with Kenya Airways which will allow the African carrier to fly more passengers into India.

The expanded codeshare comes into effect from today, Jet Airways said in a release.

As part of the enhanced pact between the two international carriers, Kenya Airways will place its flight code (KQ) on Jet Airways' seven daily flights between Mumbai and New Delhi, five daily flights from Mumbai to Ahmedabad and five daily flights between Mumbai and Hyderabad for travel into India, the release said.

At present Jet Airways, in which Gulf airline Etihad holds 24 per cent stake, has codeshare pacts with 19 international airlines besides having over 100 interline partners.

Codesharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to destinations where it has no presence.

"Expansion of our codeshare relationship with Kenya Airways will allow us to offer the Indian diaspora in Kenya convenient access to more destinations in India. At the same time, Indian travellers can continue enjoying the opportunity to explore more of Kenya and East Africa via our international codeshares," Jet Airways Chief Commercial Officer Jayaraj Shanmugam said.

The arrangement continues to include Jet Airways' code (9W) on Kenyan's double daily flights on the Mumbai-Nairobi route, allowing Jet Airways' guests to connect to other onward destinations in Africa, the Jet Airways release added.

"The expanded partnership will enable customers of both carriers to derive maximum benefit from this cooperation. It will enable us to offer our customers seamless connections to three Indian cities. We see a lot of demand into domestic India from Kenya and East Africa, with passengers travelling mostly for business, leisure or health tourism," said Kenya Airways' Group Managing Director and CEO Mbuvi Ngunze.

Jet needs to lfly direct from MAA, BLR and HYD to AMS, LHR and CDG.That would gireatly increase the connection possibilities to different cities across USA from BOM, DEL, MAA, HYD and BLR. It is a great win-win for Air France, Delta as well as Jet. This was something they could have done a decade ago.

LHR runs at 99% capacity and worthwhile slots are worth millions of pounds so that will not happen. I forsee either VS or 9W adding an overnight DEL-LHR to connect both DEL and BOM with double dailies with connections over LHR on both VS and DL.

AF flies to BLR already so it is MAA and HYD which will have new connections to either AMS or CDG.

Connecting traffic is very price sensative. So before either airlines adds services from HYD and MAA they would have to do the maths. There is literally no / very little O&D demand between MAA and HYD to AMS or CDG.

Will it be profitable to run a service which is packed with low yielding transfer traffic to the US ? That is exactly what these airlines are asking themselves right now. Especially with the capacity dumping by the Gulf Airlines. Rock bottom fares do not make fancy new routes profitable. Sadly.

All the Indian carriers operate to LHR. Since slots are a huge problem at LHR, is there any constraint which hinders them from flying out of say LGW.

Heathrow brings in the high yeilding business traffic where as Gatwick is a secondary airport with a more leisure and LCC focus.

Moreover, Heathrow helps with connections from the US and to all over Europe. Standalone routes do work i.e. AI to BHX as there is ample demand there however LGW makes no sense as it will just take away traffic from LHR services. This is with reference to Indian airlines.

The Gulf carriers operate to most regional airports in the UK but they offer onward connections to all of Asia, Africa and Australia.

Clever scheduling this. Clearly this is increasing utilisation on an aircraft which would otherwise be sitting on the tarmac in BLR overnight.

Fits in beautifully into the schedule and brings in extra revenue. The flights a short hop and 9W should have no problem filling them seats.

Jet Airways has announced that it will offer the facility of Wi-Fi on all its aircraft by March 2017. The move comes within months of the Civil Aviation Ministry deciding that airlines should be allowed to offer Wi-Fi use facility on flights.

Jet Airways to keep fleet nimble
Unlike its rivals which are placing huge aircraft orders, full-service carrier Jet Airways claims that it does not want to rush into expensive asset purchase game and would rather develop the market by way of leasing aircraft, code-shares and strategic partnership.

Airline gets nod to operate from Ozar

Dec 5, 2016

The Nashik airport at Ozar, which was lying idle for the past one-and-a-half years due to lack of air services, will start operations from Tuesday. Jet Airways will divert its Mumbai flights to Nashik in case of lack of space at the airport and choppy weather in the state capital.

The Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have given all necessary permissions to Jet Airways for diversion of flights. The aviation company has been permitted to avail this facility with effect from December 6. The Jet Airways will land its flights towards Mumbai in Nashik in case there is no space at runways of Mumbai airport or weather conditions are not good.

Sources from Jet Airways said, "Presently, we are using Ahmedabad airport for diversion of flights. We were eyeing Nashik airport for diversion of flights as it was nearer than Ahmedabad. We have got all necessary approvals from both HAL and DGCA. We have been permitted for diversion of flights from December 6."

Sources said most of the times, there is no space at Mumbai airport and sometime it also experiences bad weather conditions. "We will land our planes at Nashik in such cases. We also have to divert our flights in case there is inadequate fuel in the aircraft," they said.

In the first phase, the airlines plans to use Nashik airport for diversion of flights only. "We will also looking for commencement of air service from Nashik to some select cities in North and South India within next six months," they said.

Jet Airways seeks to raise US$300mil for expansion

8 December 2016

Jet Airways is seeking to raise US$300mil to fund expansion on international routes, people with knowledge of the matter said.

Discussions on the fundraising were at a preliminary stage, and there’s no certainty they would result in a transaction, one of the people said. A spokeswoman for Jet Airways said she couldn’t immediately comment.

Yes ! Very Happy

The second-to-last Etihad leased 777 has been returned to Jet Airways. The airframe in question is A6-JAF; the former VT-JEE/VT-JEL(II).
As I expected, she has been re-re-registered as VT-JEW.

To summarize;

VT-JEE -> To Turkish as TC-JJC -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEL (II) -> To Etihad as A6-JAF -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEW

The second-to-last Etihad leased 777 has been returned to Jet Airways. The airframe in question is A6-JAF; the former VT-JEE/VT-JEL(II).
As I expected, she has been re-re-registered as VT-JEW.

To summarize;

VT-JEE -> To Turkish as TC-JJC -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEL (II) -> To Etihad as A6-JAF -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEW

Interesting registration VT-JEW.

If ever they decide to fly to TLV, they should do the inaugral with this airplane Razz

Jet Airways to make Bengaluru third hub

December 13, 2016

Jet Airways plans to make Bengaluru International airport the third hub of its operations. The company has already taken eight parking bays in the airport as part of making Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) its major centre of operations in South India. Mumbai and Delhi are its present hubs. “We are seeing more investments in Bengaluru and it is increasingly gaining prominence as a global investment destination resulting in a significant growth in both domestic and international aviation traffic,” said Praveen Iyer, Vice President Commercial India sales, Jet Airways. “The KIA has sufficient infrastructure that we can use and build our network,” he added. Jet Airways daily operates 53 domestic flights from Bengaluru and has carried over 2 million passengers last year.

Jet Airways tweaks pre-booking rates for domestic flights

December 21

Jet Airways has revised upwards the rates that passengers pay for pre-booking window, aisle and exit or bulkhead seats on some rows on their domestic flights 24 hours before a flight. But, if passengers decide to take a chance and pre-book seats 24 hours before departure, then they will not be charged.

An airline spokesperson told BusinessLine that the new option gives passengers a chance of pre-booking seats that they prefer to travel in for a fee.

A passenger pre-booking a seat on a domestic flight will have to pay ₹450 for a middle seat. Earlier, the airline charged ₹300 for pre-booking this seat. For pre-booking an aisle seat, a passenger will now have to pay ₹600, as against ₹500 earlier.

“What we have done is by allowing reserving specific seats at a small fee, guests can ensure that they get to sit where they enjoy the flying experience the most,” an airline spokesperson said, pointing out that this was a completely optional service. On domestic 737-800 aircraft, the paid preferential pre-reservation option is offered on 22 out of 26 rows of seats in the aircraft.

The spokesperson pointed out that airlines in India also follow the pre-reserving of seats which is practised by almost all major airlines — both low-cost airlines and full service airlines in the world.

With the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) allowing airlines in India to unbundle and charge for various services, many airlines now charge for various services. Airlines in India are, however, not allowed to charge for providing water on their flights.

If you select them in advance, yes. I guess they're targeting families who want to sit together. A family of 3 would therefore have to pay not only for the window and aisle, but also the middle seat, which they would / should get by default.
