Incident: Jet Airways B773 at London on Aug 30th 2016, unsafe departure

A Jet Airways Boeing 777-300, registration VT-JEK performing flight 9W-117 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Mumbai (India), lined up Heathrow's runway 27L at taxiway S4E, about 1200 meters/4000 feet down the runway (total runway length 3660 meters/12000 feet leaving about 2400 meters/8000 feet remaining for that takeoff). The aircraft departed, climbed through 1000 feet MSL about 3200 meters/1.7nm past the runway end and continued the flight to Mumbai for a safe landing about 8:10 hours after departure.

However, local residents complained to police about a low flying aircraft, that had barely cleared the aerodrome perimeter fence. Police contacted Air Traffic Control at Heathrow Airport, who identified the aircraft and notified United Kingdom's AAIB. The AAIB opened an investigation into the occurrence and informed India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), who suspended both captain and first officer of the flight pending the investigation.

The airline reported there had been no injuries and no damage, the airline however investigates the occurrence as part of their active safety management, too. The aircraft performed an intersection departure, thus not using the full runway length, however, did not climb to required height in time and crossed the airport perimeter wall and traffic on the road just past the wall at very low height.

Is there a source for this info ( that it is "100% sold off")? It definitely started of as being leased directly to JU by 9W.

Etihad men move out as Naresh Goyal back in Jet pilot's seat

Oct 08, 2016

All representatives of Etihad Airways in Jet Airways have left, signalling that the operational control of the airline is back in the hands of founder Naresh Goyal.

People in the aviation industry and a few who are close to the development told ET that this and other developments hint the Jet-Etihad relationship is moving in a different direction three years after the two struck a deal.

In the last year and a half, Cramer Ball (CEO), Martin Drew (VP, Cargo), Rajeev Nambiar (VP, Sales), Renyl Rauf, (VP, Financial Planning, Reporting and Projects), Roy Kinnear and Rangesh Embar (both business advisers) have quit and most of them have returned to Etihad or taken up positions deputed by the airline.

Kinnear is now CEO of Air Seychelles and Ball is CEO of Alitalia, both strategic partners of Etihad which owns 24% of Jet. Embar was the last to leave.

His last Etihad men move out as Naresh Goyal back in Jet pilot's seat day was August 12, the last board meeting of the airline, said a person in the know.

Etihad Chief Executive Officer James Hogan and Chief Financial Officer James Rigney are Jet board members. Also, more than nine months after Cramer Ball quit as CEO, Jet is yet to fill the post. Sources said the names of three candidates were floated but the two partners didn’t agree. While some posts have been filled — Pradeep Kumar from Emirates now heads cargo operations at Jet — the proposal for some top and middle rung positions is still pending, said executives of three headhunting firms ET spoke to.

Sources said while Goyal is involved in key decisions at Jet, he has entrusted the airline’s operations to his three trusted lieutenants — Amit Agarwal (CFO and acting CEO), Jayaraj Shanmugam (its newly appointed Chief Commercial Officer) and Gaurang Shetty (whole-time Director) who is steering new and far reaching commercial agreements for it globally.

In response to emailed queries, Jet said the movement of Etihad representatives is in the normal course of things as the teams were formed “to work on a host of initiatives and many of these have been implemented, resulting in improved operating and financial performance of Jet Airways.”

Subleased to JU

The aircraft sub-lease to Turkish Airlines have been sub-leased for quite some time, so there is no change in that regard. We are in the midst of closing sub-lease to Air Serbia and that will be finalized hopefully in the coming weeks. The other options we have, as I said we have the options of taking in some more capacity and we are currently doing some studies looking at the opportunities of where and how we can deploy, but the beauty is we have a number of options and we are in a good position to take advantage of the opportunities that exist in the market.

The 2 A330-200s that headed to Etihad, before making their home in Alitalia (ex-A6-AGA/B, current I-EJGA/B) have been sold off.

Interesting bit from the same article -

Quote:

There have been other issues as well between the two. One person in the know said when Jet made its long-pending confirmation of an order of 75 Boeing 737 Max planes in November 2015, it came after a long to-and-fro with the Etihad management. The order included an option for 50 planes. The options have now been firmed up, said one of the people cited above. The airline wanted to make an announcement to that effect during the Farnborough Airshow in July 2016, but the Etihad management, headed by Hogan put its foot down, said one of the people cited above.

So if this report is true - then 9W's orderbook with Boeing stands at 125 Boeing 737 MAXs & 10 Boeing 787-9 Dream)Liners.

So that one will be back. I believe the lease is 3 years.

AZ have actually reconfigured their planes, so those planes I guess are gone.

Lets see about the JU 332. Even the TK 332s. I don't see either returning. Sold or not.

The focus was more on the utilization of the 330s, which no one seems to be bothering about in this post.

Rest, god himself will not be able to predict 9W's WB fleet.

No doubt. Some of us were trying to figure out if airframes in 9W's fleet have been "sold off" (whether 100%, or probably), because that's the first we've heard about it.

Yes, because opening planespotters.net is equivalent to *figuring* out the half life of plutonium-239 radioisotopes.

Is that where you get your "expert" advice from ? No wonder you're quite the aviation anal-yst around here. And apparently, a scientist too.

Are these placeholder flights for one season? Do we think Jet can make money with premium heavy planes on these routes?
Any rumors of what new flights Jet will start as part of their AF/DL partnership? They said US flights, any news?

Any rumors of what new flights Jet will start as part of their AF/DL partnership? They said US flights, any news?

Finally putting better aircraft on their bread and butter ME routes.

Not a big difference in Premium capacity. 9Ws 73H has 16 J seats. The 332 has 18 J (herringbone config)

With BOM-JED, it's actually a reduction in J-Seats offered.. (28 J on the 739ER)

OTOH, Y sees a jump in capacity, so does cargo..

The 737-800s and -900ERs have 12J seats where are the old -900s (JGC/JGD) have 28J seats.

Do note though, that the overall capacity in Delhi-Dammam, Mumbai-Dammam/Doha will drop after the introduction of the A330.

The fact that CDG-BOM is on the list, makes me scared AF will stop CDG-BOM. Would be a bummer.

^^ Wouldn't be surprised if it happens, tbh.

For long AF has said that they might pull out of one Indian destination, but I do believe that BOM has enough traffic to sustain both flights...

Edit - AF haven't explicitly said that, but there have been rumors...

Another Etihad leased 777 has been returned to Jet Airways. The airframe in question is A6-JAD; the former VT-JEB/VT-JEP.
She has been re-re-registered as VT-JEV.

To summarize;

VT-JEB -> To Thai as HS-TKH -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEP -> To Turkish as VT-JEP -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEP -> To Etihad as A6-JAD -> To Jet Airways as VT-JEV

With 2 more 777s due back from Etihad (A6-JAF/VT-JEE/VT-JEL(II), & A6-JAE/VT-JEG), it would be interesting to see whether the next one in is re-re-registered VT-JEW .....and flown all over the Middle East (since Jew-S-A is no longer served)....wonder how that would go down with 9W's Arab overlords.

Surprising as hell! 0 schedules/bookings whatsoever! Did Gaurang accidentally step on the PR machine again?!

EDIT: - It is true. Jet has posted a PR on their website.

I'm assuming the freed up 737 is coming from BOM-JED/BOM-MAA going A330.

Also, effective March 26th - EY will increase Kozhikode-Abu Dhabi to 4 daily. Bookings not yet open for this flight.

EY is taking advantage of EK's absence from the Kozhikode market. 4 dailies!. Also shifting 9W to TRZ is clever as EY is not allowed to operate from TRZ but is allowed from AMD.

But I thought there were overall seat limits for Abu Dhabi, so EY must not have reached its limit yet.

Nope, EY is only retaining frequency for AMD at the moment.

Interesting times indeed.

As speculated before -

Jet Airways upgauges 3 existing A330-200 routes to A330-300 effective 15JAN

* 9W18/17 Delhi-Singapore-Delhi

* 9W78/77 Delhi-Hong Kong-Delhi

* 9W568/567 Delhi-Dammam-Delhi

This is an increase of 280 seats per week

it seems a lot of the senior 330 pilots being idle were put in management

And now they are ensuring [rightfully so ] a lot better utilisation of the 330s

I guess they finally realised one makes money by flying planes not by parking them

I don't know what good these codeshares are. I never found Jet to be competitive and this is no better than interlining, Jet already has interline arrangements with United also. The same issue with Delta codeshares to Indian cities. Many of them require long layover in BOM. Not sure if DL codeshares from DEL.

Earning and burning FFP points, seamless respect of status and privileges as far as possible, for starters? Interlining only allows seamless baggage transfer and boarding passes across flights, without the passenger having to re-check in, and take luggage in and out. Sometimes, a code-share also gets a better fare bracket (sometimes, `telescopic fares') for a loyal passenger (and sometimes not, as well). IMHO Jet are doing quite well, here.
Cheers, Sumantra.
