I agree. There are no useful slots available at the desired times, and the problem is severe in Mumbai. AAI owns the land outside the current boundary of the airport, but is unable to do anything due to politics and then there is the bill board issue, which I believe is still unsolved.

It is time for BOM to get the new airport or all parties must involved must brain storm to build a new runway in the existing airport.

IndiGo bars kids below 12 from premium seats, draws DGCA ire

Sep 24, 2016

If you are flying IndiGo with children under 12 years of age, then the extra leg room seats are out of bounds for you. The low cost carrier has termed seats in rows 1-4 and 11-14 as "quiet zones" and passengers travelling with young children, or unaccompanied minors, cannot pre-book them by paying extra for these premium seats.

The quiet zone move — adopted by a handful of airlines globally to save their premium flyers from crying children —has left passengers seething as leg space, armrests and seat cushioning are shrinking at an alarming pace across all airlines globally. The concept of premium seating, was introduced so that people can pay more to get access to a slightly better seat in terms of less cramped seats.

A senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official said: "Won't premium row passengers be disturbed by children crying in rear rows? We will examine this policy of IndiGo."

In a statement, IndiGo said it "endeavors to extend courteous and hassle free experience to all passengers (that includes both leisure and corporate travellers) who wish to fly with the airline. Keeping in mind the comfort and convenience of all passengers — row number 1 to 4 and 11 to 14 are allocated as 'quiet zone' on IndiGo flights. Creating 'quiet zone' for passengers on board is an international practice, in both full service and low cost airlines — and IndiGo's said policy is in-line with the global practice."

The 'quiet zone' policy is transparently laid on the company website under 'conditions of carriage' section, IndiGo added. But many flyers are upset at this move. Aman Varma, a Karol Bagh-based frequent flyer, who lives in a joint family said: "Now there is no escaping the cattle class when I travel with the young children of my family."

This is the first time than an Indian carrier has introduced the concept of quiet zones.

Indigo has added a pre-owned A320 to the fleet today, as VT-IDX.
Interestingly enough, this airframe is the former VT-WAM with GoAir (2010-2016), having served with her former Indian operator till as recently as July of this year.

IndiGo has started inducting updated Airbus A320neo planes into its fleet.

“The deliveries since the summer have been with new engines standards,” Airbus spokesman Justin Dubon said in an email, “IndiGo received their 8th A320neo (last week). So far we have 20 A320neo delivered to 7 customers in three continents.”

The airline will be updating some of the initially inducted A320neo planes locally while new planes start flying in over the coming weeks and months.

IndiGo has leased 22 planes from Tiger Airways and some other operators which have either joined the fleet or will be inducted by October.

“We took delivery of our first Neo in March... Expected to be 10 by the end of this month. As on now, we have 22 used airplanes, of which 12 are from Tiger,” IndiGo’s president Aditya Ghosh said in an email on 15 September.

http://www.aviationpros.com/news/12268744/exclusive-terminal-new-delhis-t1d-may-go-all-indigo

New Delhi's T1D May Go All IndiGo

Oct. 13

In a first-of-its-kind agreement, budget carrier IndiGo, India's biggest airline by market share, may get Delhi airport's domestic terminal, better known as Terminal 1D, for its exclusive use.

Civil aviation secretary RN Choubey confirmed to HT that talks between GMR-led Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the consortium that operates the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, and IndiGo were at an "active" stage. "Talks are now at a very active stage between the airport operator and airlines."

Besides IndiGo, T1D is used by low-cost carriers SpiceJet and GoAir for domestic operations. IGI's T3 handles all international, as well as some local flights.

"This discussion has got an operational and a commercial dimension so the airport operator and airlines have to sit together. They are doing so and talking about the details," said Choubey.

The exercise, however, is unlikely to be a smooth one. Both SpiceJet and GoAir have resisted the move to shift out of T1D.

"We have opposed the move to shift us out of T1," said SpiceJet spokesperson Ajay Jasra.

Sources said both SpiceJet and GoAir have argued that no single airline should be favoured and, if need be, all three should be moved out.

"T1D is far more accessible, much easier and quicker to check-in and exit, and is much preferred by passengers. The taxiing time for planes is lesser, so we save on fuel. If DIAL has to renovate the terminal or if an airline wants an exclusive terminal, why don't you move them to T2 (cargo terminal)?" questioned an airline official, who did not wish to be named.

While IndiGo did not offer comments, a DIAL spokesperson said: "All our terminals are common-use facilities. There is no such deal with any airline for exclusive use of any terminals."

"There is no bar on such a kind of arrangement taking place, but it is an operational and a commercial decision between the airport operator and airlines. It depends on the size of operations. If the airport operator feels that the size of the operation of a particular airline meets certain requirements, it is for the operator and airlines to come to a commercial decision. The ministry could play the role of a facilitator if the stage comes to that," said Choubey.

All of the VT-ID* aircraft are pre-owned, so that's around 26 aircraft.

If I am not mistaken, most of the VT-ID* are powered by CFM 56 engines?

No, 5 of those are CFM-powered, rest are all IAE powered.

indiGo is also expected to take delivery of another CFM A320ceo soon.

IndiGo to add 18 A320neos by Mar, raise capacity 30%

9 Nov 2016

IndiGo expects to add 18 aircraft to its present fleet of 118 by the end of this fiscal year, its parent company InterGlobe Aviation revealed in its latest financial results released on Tuesday.

Based on a large fleet, the airline also expects an increase of about 30% in capacity during the next two quarters.

IndiGo, which is the biggest customer for Airbus’s A320neo aircraft had in August slowed down its delivery to allow engine supplier to catch up on the production of upgraded engines.

The airline has placed an order for 430 fuel efficient A320neo aircraft.

Wing tips of two taxiing planes collide at Mumbai Airport

Nov 30, 2016

In yet another aviation close shave, the wing tips of two taxiing aircraft collided with each other at Mumbai airport on Wednesday morning. The wing tip collision happened when a Kuwait Airways wide body aircraft's wing hit the wing tip of an IndiGo aircraft.

A passenger saw this happen and in turn alerted the IndiGo crew. The IndiGo Airbus A-320 (VT-IFP)'s sharklet - curved portion at the tip of aircraft wing -- was damaged due to the impact and the plane had to be grounded.

Confirming the incident, an IndiGo spokesperson said: "At about 5.45am on Wednesday morning while the aircraft of this international airline was taxing toward the parking stand, at the same time an IndiGo flight (6E 207) was taxing to depart to Jaipur from taxiway 'N' and 'W' respectively.... under the air traffic control (ATC) instruction. IndiGo pilot was advised to follow the international operator arrival."

"Approximately at 5.45am, the pilot of this international airline was advised by the ATC to move ahead to make way for IndiGo aircraft. As per (rules), while an aircraft is on taxiway N, Taxiway W4 must not be permitted to use as standard wingtip clearance is not met .... Hence, due to the taxiing process, the Airbus 320 aircraft of IndiGo came in contact with Airbus A330 aircraft of the international operator," the low cost airline said.

"As the wing tip of the two aircraft came in contact, an IndiGo passenger observed this and immediately alerted the crew, who informed the pilots about this. The highly experienced pilot-in-command operating 6E 207 immediately decided to take the precautionary measure and returned the aircraft to the parking bay. The flight crew ensured to keep all passengers informed about the situation and assured to maintain calm on board. All passengers were safely accommodated to the other aircraft."

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is probing this incident and IndiGo said it is 'supporting' this probe.

A passenger on board the IndiGo flight said: "IndiGo handled the incident very well and there was no panic despite the same. The flight wing got dented while moving towards runway. Once a passenger saw this and reported to the airline staff, the plane went back to the terminal and everyone was sent in another aircraft arranged for by IndiGo."

The Mumbai Airport is also probing the incident. "Luckily no one was injured. We will devise procedures to avoid a similar situation arising again," said an airport source.

IndiGo retains number 1 position for 11th straight month in domestic skies

Dec 19

For 11 successive months in this calendar year, IndiGo retained the number one position having carried 37.73 lakh passengers from among the 89.66 lakh passengers flown by all the airlines collectively in November this year, the latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows.

Jet Airways emerged as the next favoured airlines among domestic flyers having carried 13.36 lakh passengers in November followed by Air India (11.57 lakh), SpiceJet (11.48 lakh), GoAir (7.20 lakh), Vistara (2.60 lakh) and Air Asia (2.51 lakh).

SpiceJet reported the highest passenger load factor of 92.5 per cent among the domestic carriers followed by IndiGo (88 per cent), GoAir (87.3 per cent), AirAsia India (86.9 per cent) and Jet Airways (80.4 per cent). Passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled.

Incident: Indigo A320 at Mumbai on Jan 21st 2017, rejected takeoff due to engine failure

An Indigo Airbus A320-200, registration VT-ITF performing flight 6E-248 from Mumbai to Delhi (India), was accelerating for takeoff from Mumbai's runway 27 when the right hand engine (PW1127) emitted a loud bang and sparks prompting the crew to reject takeoff at low speed. The aircraft vacated the runway about 1000 meters/3300 feet down the runway and returned to the apron.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration VT-ITD reached Delhi with a delay of 2.5 hours.

First Qatar A320neo repainted in IndiGo colours

27 January, 2017

At least one of the Airbus A320neos formerly ordered by Qatar Airways has been repainted in the livery of Indian operator IndiGo.

Qatar Airways had ordered 34 A320neos but began cancelling individual airframes during a spat over their Pratt & Whitney PW1100G powerplants. Four had been cancelled by the end of last year.

Three aircraft carrying Qatar Airways colours remained parked, without engines, in a location close to the Airbus facility in Toulouse at the time of the airframer’s annual orders briefing on 11 January.

Images of MSN6772, the first for the Doha-based airline, and test-flown in Qatar livery, have recently emerged showing the aircraft at Hamburg Finkenwerder repainted in IndiGo’s scheme.
