I would have thought the single or dual class 319s to take over due to more range and some sort of IFE however bad it might be. Does anyone here have info on how the A320 would perform on this route? Since its a dense configuration would it be load restricted?

Actually I wish Indian carriers would purchase the long range A321 (or 319). Put 8 lie flat J seats up front and coach in back with IFE. Fly nonstop to various cities to increase the options out of india. For what ever reasons they can't fill the 787, so at least fill and A321 and serve cities. Nonstop options are always better than fly by dubai

Wrt to IFE on 319/321s my last 6 domestic flights on these birds 4 of them on BOM deal in the past few months the IFE unit was switched off

So the 32A seems the correct way to go ...there must be no premium demand at all

Absolutely true, Karan-ji. They seem to have the IFE on only on longer/international legs on the A319/320/321s.

This is also possibly a good course correction, to account for the Y demand commensurate with the season and route, and the cargo as well.
Cheers, Sumantra.

What are the demographics of pax on AI's DEL-DME route?

The size of the Indian community in Russia is modest - only about 15,000 people.

So, who's flying this route? The babu-mantri set? Indian traders? Exchange students? Seasonal Russian backpackers on their way to Goa?

Air India resumes Boeing 787 Moscow service from Nov 2016

Air India from Late-November 2016 is resuming Boeing 787 service to Russia, as the Star Alliance member plans Dreamliner Delhi – Moscow Domodedovo flight resumption from 26NOV16.

The airline currently operates this route 3 times a week with Airbus A320, however this will switch to 2 weekly when AI operates Boeing 787 aircraft.

Lots of Navy traffic too.

Good for AI. I like they are maintaining DEL-Moscow year round even if it means changing aircraft type between low and high season.
