SN is planning to launch direct flights to BOM from March next year using A330 aircraft. Belgium is being reconnected to India again after 9W pulled out of BRU early this year. But I am surprised why not DEL? SN will cooperate with AI, which has more presence in Delhi than Mumbai and thus more connections through DEL.

only reason I can think off is Gujrati business traffic/diamond traders... if at all that many travel to Belgium.

I doubt they are looking at the diamond traders at all. They have several other reasons to fly to India.

For starters, they offer convenient connections to ORD, IAD, EWR and JFK, all popular destinations among Indians. Second, they are star alliance. Third, they also offer plenty of connections to numerous EU and UK destinations, for those interested.

And now that people are somewhat wary of flying TK, SN can be a good replacement.

I think it is due to the diamond connection.

Nope, it cannot be.

I doubt there are hundreds of diamond traders flying back and forth between India and Brussels everyday.

If such industry ties are the deciders of air traffic, BLR-SFO must be the most popular international route out of India. It isn't.

SN is targeting the ever growing India-US traffic, that is it.

True, but apparently there's also enough premium O&D traffic to sustain the front end. And BRU (despite its recent problems) is a convenient and efficient European hub for Western Europe without any of the nastiness of CDG or FRA or LHR.

Perhaps there is more competition in DEL to Europe than in BOM. There are more flights from DEL to Europe than from BOM.

I agree its not diamond traders (as there are not enough of them) but maybe that gives some good O&D in J (like max two seats a flight IF that). But how about cargo? Do you think diamonds being flow nonstop between BOM and BRU might be worth the flight? My only thing with this flight is that there is nothing new. Its the same timings that LH group already offer to BOM via FRA, MUC, ZRH. VIE tried and failed. The only thing could be just having cheap seats to fill the planes to NA. So LH could say give up on a A380 to BOM and let BRU get some traffic. That said, its nice to see BOM get some new nonstop destinations not in the GULF. I would like to see Jet launch MAN and FCO from BOM and then start BOM and either SYD or MEL.

Other than OS and AI, every carrier that connects DEL with Europe non-stop, also does so from BOM.

Actually that brings up a good point about OS. From a LH pov since OS only flies to DEL, the BRU flight would now balance out the number of LH group flights between BOM and DEL

In number of flights from DEL however has more than BOM even after the addition of Brussels airlines. AI alone flies to FRA, CDG, FCO, then VS flies to LHR.

Austrian Airlines stopped flying to DEL from April this year.

Yeah, OS has been selling tickets on AI as a codeshare partner from VIE...

The slot mirros the LH BOM-MUC flight departure...there was a rumour that BOM-MUC was gonna get dropped this W16...clearly that dint happen.

It now seems poised to come true in S17 instead

Also if that does happen LH will upgrade BOM-FRA to 380

Regards/
